  1. The second opinion from Dr. Andrews confirmed the first opinion. No tommy john for Buchholz this year -- but I just want him gone.
  2. I can't believe it, but the Red Sox are already in line for the 4th overall pick in the draft. They're that bad, and the team hasn't even sold off yet.
  3. The Orioles are reportedly dangling Kevin Gausman in trades. Clearly, they're not so good with evaluating untouchable prospects. I wonder if there is any amount of maneuvering/multi-team trades that could pull him into Boston.
  4. The Red Sox always use a phrase... "We're looking for an ace, but at the right price". Shields for 70 million was the right price.
  5. I get the feeling the Red Sox will score 10 runs tomorrow night. And the Astros will score 12.
  6. Vacation. NESN is giving those two some extra days off.
  7. I was responding to Spudboy who said they are talented, but a poor clubhouse. Chill out.
  8. Pablo was a good clubhouse guy, Victorino, Ortiz, Pedroia, Porcello, Miley, Napoli. They all get the kind words. Hanley is the only "problem" and there are no real reports of him causing issues. The problem is when they start losing. What's the solution? Players don't like losing. It would be funny to see the Red Sox go out in free agency and find as many "good clubhouse guys" on losing teams.
  9. Just as Ben will never get the credit in 2-3 years when the team's farm system is churning out All-stars. Hopefully his replacement won't trade them away for something shiny.
  10. At this point firing Ben seems justifiable. But if JH, TW, and LL keep making baseball decisions, it will go much worse for this franchise.
  11. I am not convinced that Ben is responsible for all of the mistakes made within the organization. His moves always seem shrewd, cold, calculated. His moves are baseball moves, and the rest of the FO seem to make the big money splash signings for marketing purposes. I think Ben is responsible for acquiring Miley/Porcello/Ogando/Masterson, and the rest of the FO is responsible for Castillo/Sandoval/Hanley. If you want to think I'm pandering to Ben Cherrington realize this: I am blaming Cherrington for this rotation, including the Porcello extension. Personally, I think baseball moves should be put in the hands of baseball people, with or without BC.
  12. I lived in NY in 2009 and Boston in 2013, so my luck can't be that bad haha
  13. I wonder if Buchholz is still tradeable. He could potentially get a start in before the deadline but I am thinking about the waiver deadline in August. With so many teams close to the playoffs, the Red Sox just need him to sneak past a few teams for him to be claimed by a team that needs him. Seattle,Oakland, Texas, Cleveland, Chicago. Everyone is a contender after that.
  14. Pablo always seemed like an attention grab signing. Shields will be a better deal in every single year of their respective contracts. I'd look to try to eat 15-20 million on that contract and dump him. Holt is the future at 3B.
  15. Wade Miley is the team's second best pitcher now. I'd rather a 4.00 turd than a 6.00 turd any day. That being said, Leake isn't exactly going to cost a haul.
  16. They're gunning for a World Series-- I get the feeling they're looking to keep Zimmerman for now. What about Fister? They're going to be looking for major leaguers to build their postseason roster, and he might be expendable. Maybe they'd have some interest in Victorino. He's probably not a starter, but he's still has excellent defense and is crushing lefties, has speed off the bench and has a couple rings. Fister --> Red Sox Cecchini/Mid tier pieces --> 3rd team for a reliever Reliever/Victorino/5 million in cash --> Nationals Nationals put Roark into their rotation.
  17. They're buyers. Definitely a pitcher. Probably not a "front line" pitcher, but if Hamels/Cueto are available for mid tier pieces or Gray/Sale are available for minor league pieces I see it being possible.
  18. A few years, the Phillies dismantled their team... Who then turned things around and just barely missed the playoffs despite losing a lot of talent. I can see Ben trading for a second tier starter like Leake Fiers or Harang and letting the team gel a bit, and try to turn things around. I can also see him dealing the farm for a controllable ace and going for it, but there needs to be a willing seller.
  19. Besides Guerra, Law's positions for Red Sox prospects are pretty similar to BP and BA. He just doesn't like Severino as much as the next guy.
  20. The game is tomorrow.
  21. Kopech tested positive and is suspended for 50 games. Awesome.
  22. Hernandez has actually had pretty consistent numbers all year. He's hit around .300 every single month this season -- this isn't a guy who had a hot streak. Age 22 in Portland is about average for major leaguers. That being said, if he's a .700 OPS, average defense shortstop in AA, his ceiling is not that high in the majors.
  23. Most of the reports I read mentioned that Eduardo had a higher ceiling, but Owens had a higher floor. We all got giddy after seeing Owens turn unhittable in the minors, but the low 90s fastball does hurt him a bit.
