  1. How does less pressure in October make him prime for a monster regular season? I think you're mixing yourself up here.
  2. Jacko, the idea that the Red Sox somehow leaked privileged information by saying that Bay failed the team physical is utterly ridiculous. This kind of stuff happens ALL THE TIME. Where was your outrage when it was made public that a prospect in the Halladay deal failed his physical? Team physicals aren't privileged medical information.
  3. Leaked? They weren't a secret, Bay openly admits that the Red Sox seem to believe his MRI's show some damage. Who's to say Bay wasn't the source who told Gammons what happened?
  4. Can we please not be so childish as to start calling eachother names? It's just a baseball thread, not the end of the world. Sounds like you were trying to make him no longer lacking a clutch factor some kind of benefit for him next year. I'm confused. You claim clutch doesn't exist and then claim he's better off because he no longer doesn't have it. :dunno:
  5. Oh, and ORS, when you get a chance could you look at the correlation between K/9 and E-F over the last few years? I don't have excel but that .304 correlation is awfully close to one standard deviation. I'm curious what a larger sample size would look like.
  6. That's not really true. I fee like you're just saying that because it's the Yankees and after the Red Sox won in 2004 or 2007 you probably pointed out how usually the teams that win championships in any sport, not just baseball tend to struggle to repeat.
  7. What's next, he's going to win an award for marriage fidelity?
  8. I thought you said clutch didn't exist. I guess only Yankees players can attain it :dunno:
  9. If the correlation is .304, that essentially means that the two stats have a 30.4% relation, correct? I'd call that pretty significant if that's the case. That would be like claiming that if a ballpark gave up 30% more home runs than a neutral park, it wasn't a home run friendly park.
  10. More Damon updates: Heyman says that Damon has only days to decide on a cheap offer from the Yankees before they move on. Damon says he should sign in a week. Sounds like a lot of posturing. Still, articles continue to indicate that the Yankees only have $2 million to spend and I doubt Damon takes such a lowball offer. Cashman says the Yankees aren't waiting on Damon. http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2010/01/23/cashman-denies-damon-deadline/
  11. I'm not sure what you're asking. I listed the top 10 pitchers in K/9 last year and 9 of the top 10 had a lower FIP than they did an ERA. I don't know of any way to look up the top 10 pitchers with the largest difference between their ERA and FIP.
  12. I'm not sure what stats you're looking at, but of the top 20 pitchers in K/9 last year, Lincecum, Verlander, Lester, Vazqeuz, Kershaw, Greinke, Nolasco, De La Rosa, Sherzer, Beckett, Johnson and Billingsley had a better FIP than they did an ERA. And of the top 10 pitchers in K/9 last year, 9 of them had a better FIP than ERA. I wouldn't call that correlation zero.
  13. It proves the Sox didn't make anything up or smear Bay for one. Bay agreed with everything Gammons said and added that he wasn't willing to take a deal with an opt out clause should Bay's knees limit his playing time (similar to the one Drew has with his shoulder). Any MRI showed damage to both of his knees. He wasn't willing to take a deal that would allow the Sox an out if his knees kept him from playing. That's on him. The Sox would have to be idiots to commit $60+ million to a guy with two damaged knees who can barely field his position as it is.
  14. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2010/01/the_plot_thicke.html So much for the Red Sox making the story up as part of some kind of smear campaign.
