  1. Yeah, that kind of stuff makes me proud to be a Red Sox fan. I was in Boston this weekend and I was absolutely blown away by how much support the team has there. I want to say about 1 in every 5 people I saw walking around the city was wearing some kind of Red Sox related apparel. Even drug stores had Red Sox hat and shirt displays in their windows, it was incredible. I've been to plenty of cities, and I've never seen a city that cared about their baseball team nearly as much.
  2. I hope Jacko sees that. He went on a rant last night about how Boston runs players out of town when they don't want to pay them anymore and the team and fans all gang up against them.
  3. I'd like to hear it! lol I loved Nomar. He's the reason I grew sideburns in high school and I've had them ever since.
  4. He had the following to say when he was interviewed today: "The minute I put that uniform on I dreamed I was gonna start my career in Boston and end my career in Boston. I still have that dream. The only difference from the original dream is that I wasn't supposed to put another uniform on. But that dream is still there." The Red Sox could use some help at the corner infield positions. Does Nomar deserve any discussion?
  5. I was just kidding. Bates at first, Green at second and Lugo at short is a comically bad infield defense compared to what we usually put out there. Our lineup is pieced together today, but I still like our chances. We've got John Smoltz against some A's pitching with an ERA in the mid 5's.
  6. Smoltz better hope all his ground balls go to third base, or he's screwed.
  7. Not sure that's as much a prediction as it is an inevitability.
  8. Looks like Dominicans are a little smarter than some of us were lead to believe...
  9. OK, phew! I thought something bad may have happened.
  10. He better have a lot of strikeouts in him with the defense the Red Sox are gonna be throwing out there. On a completely off topic note, have any of you ever bought a 6-pack and had the cans fall out of the plastic thing that connects them all? I just went down to the store to buy 2 6-packs and a beer fell out of both of them. They didn't pop open and break or anything, it was just annoying. I must have held 100 six packs by the plastic connector thingy and never once has it happened to me, today I get 2-six packs and both of them break. What are the odds?
  11. Yeah, it sucks. Hopefully everything works out alright with Pedroia's family and he's back soon.
  12. Pedroia scratched from lineup with "family matter"
  13. Well I can see this thread's going nowhere fast. I'm out.
  14. No one said Mark Recchi can replace Kessel's offensive production. Making an argument for Kessel is one thing, but putting words in my mouth after I provide stats to back up my point isn't a debate. I'm not saying Kessel's a bum. I'm saying he's a good player. I just don't think a guy who's production is somewhat soft and who's defense is suspect is worth $5 million a year. That's my stance if you care to debate it.
  15. I'm not sure a handful of angry bar patrons are the best meter of a prospect's talent either
  16. And the Red Sox get a chance to pad their lead. Everybody's happy today.
  17. Quote of the day from Francona. "There's a lot that goes into a being a really good player that maybe isn't always the fairest," manager Terry Francona said [of Nomar]. "But he's a good kid, and he'll always be a good kid. I hope they give him a great ovation. And then I hope he hits into a double play." http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2009/07/nomar_is_here.html
  18. Lowrie went 3-5 with a double and 2 RBI today for Portland. He's now up to .263/.364/.316 in 19 rehab at bats. He hadn't played in a while because he was day-to-day after getting hit by a pitch and the Pawtucket game was rained out yesterday.
  19. Baldelli's hitting .286/.360/.481. That's better than a lot of team's regulars.
