  1. I don't disagree with you Hugh. But one can look at Buch's presence on the roster another way. First I will state yet again my disdain for spending huge money on athletes. And I am one of Buch's biggest detractors. I sort of see Buch as the Drew Bledsoe of the Sox. He is sort of a Cadillac in the garage, of sorts. He can make quality starts, and he can pitch out of the pen with multiple innings if needed. It's not unlikely that he can pitch 170-200 or so innings. To me, that is cost efficiency compared to what we get out of Kimbrel for roughly the same money. 60-75 innings? Also, for some reason everyone is conveniently forgetting how awful things can get when this team does not have quality starter depth. It's not like this team has an embarrassment of riches with their starters. Yes, we have seven at present. But that often changes overnight during the season. One guy goes down and then we have six. And so on. I understand the desire to move him for economic purposes or to help replenish the minors with talent. I say keep Buch because there is a strong likely hood that he will be productive in 2017. It has been offered that he could be replaced with a less costly option. Maybe. But I say why bother? We know what we have in Buch. He may look like an expensive luxury now, but when we need him he will be there. Ugh, I can't believe that I just wrote all that about a guy I have not wanted on this team for two years.
  2. It should concern any Sox fan.
  3. That makes four of us.
  4. We'll see. The Sox catchers did not seem to have such a profound effect on David Price. Not that I noticed, anyway.
  5. Um, Bump. Bobby Valentine has been interviewed for the position of Ambassador to Japan. Lol. I am aware that he was a well known figure over there. But wow. Hope we don't start a huuuuge political discussion.
  6. You aint just a rooster poopin' either. Experts, lol.
  7. The King of Talksox has spoken. So be it. Long live the King.
  8. I understand that Doc. I just don't see a complete dearth of talent as imminent. Of course a team would want higher draft picks. But the nead for replacing starting MLB talent has to demand top prosects for there to be a real problem if the Sox wallow in unproductive lower picks. People are just hand wringing and chanting woe is me prematurely.
  9. I agree.
  10. So the Sox have no opportunity to draft more worthwhile prospects for the next 3-5 years? What of the boys drafted in 2016? Don't they stand a chance of turning into prospect gold? I don't get the panic at all. I am more concerned that the Sox have some heavy price tags ( no pun intended ) on some veteran players and continue to throw money around like a drunken sailor on leave. The idea that this team may not be able to compete for talent or compete for a tittle is unproven and unsubstantiated. It's just opinion.
  11. This is not thread worthy. I'm just sitting here reading all the discussion of roster construction, rotations, which starter should be moved and when, etc.. For some reason I am thinking about what this team has lost going into 2017. Specifically, Tazawa and Koji. I know that moves have been made to upgrade the pen and I get that. But I will miss those two guys. A lot. I remember watching Taz the night he was brought up and faced the Yankees in New York. This lanky Japanese kid just tossing. He gave no f***s and just threw. He got totally f***ing schelled but you could see that he had stuff and was very serious about competing. I think about all those big innings he came in and slammed the door. Yes, I remember him failing as well. He gave this team a s*** load of good innings in some pretty tough situations. He was a work horse. I'll remember Koji being throw in as closer because there were no better options remaining. He was lights out and I thought, that was cool. But I have no reason to expect him to do that all the time. Then within weeks I was looking forward to "KOJI TIME". When ever he came in I knew the game was now in the bag. As a 50 year fan of this team, I have rarely felt that way. The best season of closing for my team I had seen. All by this scrawny little guy with a full body motion. I will never forget David Ortiz and what he did for my team. But one of the things I will miss is seeing Koji shutting the door and pumping his fist while coming off the mound. Ortiz would come out of the dugout and give Koji a big bear hug and lifting him off the ground. Those were good times. I'm going to miss them.
  12. Talk is cheap. Let's see some results on the field before we start licking his nut sack.
  13. I liked it too.
  14. Kind of cool idea but of course they would never do it. Too much money would be sacrificed.
  15. I think a lot of people have like him. Wasn't he one of the blue chippers in his draft? I think that he can hit pretty well and he can play decent but not great D 3rd and 2nd. Decent depth piece.
  16. I kind of like Rutledge.
  17. That is a dumb idea that will not happen. Time to move on.
  18. Do you see him being effective for 5 years? Dominant or not, that is a big commitment to a reliever.
  19. I am excited and can't wait for baseball to resume. This winter sucks. Having a baby is a big change in lifestyle. You will adjust! It's pretty cool overall. Hang in there and best of luck to you and your young family.
  20. Same here. I am a fat f***. I know many fat f***s that are not lazy slobs like Fatboy. I have no problem with them at all.
  21. You old fool. The Sox went out and got so much new WAR Ortiz will not be missed. How many times do I have to tell you this?
  22. Lol. A photo with no date stamp is still not convincing. If that is Pablo recently that is nice. I wonder how long he can keep the weight off? SF fans know the answer, apparently.
  23. No. But when I say he is a fat f*** or fat slob it certainly is.
