  1. Send him down to Salem to get his confidence back!
  2. They signed Kluber around the same time Eovaldi was signed. Wacha was 2.5 months later. Huge difference.
  3. How could they get out from under that???
  4. Then why did they offer him a contract in the first place last offseason?
  5. I would have spent the money in a different manner for sure. I also would have looked into trading for an arm.
  6. It some point, Wacha was sitting out there in early March and it was a value signing to go after him and pick him up. Sox just didn't want to do it. 28 other teams didn't want to do it either. I don't think he's a great pitcher, but the contract isn't horrible for what he is.
  7. And those 3 are on the 40 man. Why Murphy is on there I have no clue. He's an easy DFA to me. I don't know what is going on with Walter. Lingering problems from last year's injury? Mata gets injured once a year and has no more options. He's headed to the pen sometime soon IMO. Drohan has pitched a little better in his last two starts, but he needs the rest of this year and probably the start of next year too in AAA. After that, there's not much else. The only legitimate prospect not mentioned that is having a good year is Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz in Low A. He's 3-4 years away. Bloom has drafted a lot of marginal under slot college guys. They may push through AA and look good, but they'll probably hit their ceilings long before they reach BOS. It's kinda bleak!
  8. If Bloom is unwilling to dip into the trade market, the starting rotation is going to suck for a while. FA's are 50/50 at best. Sox aren't known for developing starters and there aren't a lot of high end guys in the minors right now. It's a hitter heavy farm.
  9. Eovaldi was younger and had that massive 2021 season. That's the upside. The downside was the length of the deal and the injury risk. He's pitching lights out for now.
  10. Patience is highly predictive of being a good poster as well.
  11. Unless you believe the Bruins fan berated him into signing Raffy into the long term deal...
  12. They want to "compete" year in and year out. They are having considerable trouble figuring out how to run it back when changing out the roster every year.
  13. Get to eat Bloom's cake and have it too!
  14. Hamilton can't play SS. He'd have the worst arm in MLB at SS. I don't know why they haven't played Reyes more. He looked fine whenever I saw him in there.
  15. I was comparing him to other patient hitters that came off the top of my head. Is he Boggs or Betts? Of course not. Is his approach patient in the manner of Boggs or Betts? Yes.
  16. His zone is more of an amoeba. Will Clark stated that he had a really rough game with Angel once, but kept it to himself. He saw him at the bar later and bought him a round of drinks, but didn't hang out or anything else. For the rest of his career, his k zone was considerably smaller.
  17. I spent all offseason saying that the MIF situation was a mess. I've always thought that Kiké was a good to great CFer and should have been left there. This is unchanging. This isn't after the fact reporting in the manner that you do.
  18. He has a 25% k looking %. Mookie Betts has a 36% k looking % and has watched more 3rd strikes gone by than Casas this year. Wade Boggs had a career 46% k looking %. The MLB average for 22/23 is 23%. He's taking a called 3rd strike at a league average rate.
  19. The 6.5% HR/FB was unsustainable? The ERA that was much less than his xFIP was kinda SSS fool's gold? No way!
  20. Like I did what?
  21. One bad signing doesn't tank a season. It was a 10M contract. It's the same contract Garrett Richards got. It was the whole stew that Bloom created that ended up not working out. You should be able to cover up one bad ingredient.
  22. The WOO starting rotation can't even compete in AAA. I'm sure it would be glorious to see after they were all pitching at Fenway in August. Chris Murphy 7.71 ERA Brandon Walter 6.75 ERA Bryan Mata 5.61 ERA and injured
  23. The easiest thing to do is always criticize everything retrospectively without ever stating which moves you want to make ahead of time. "Bloom sucks. He shoulda kept this guy. He's good this year!" "Ok, so who do you think Bloom should pick up this offseason?" "I don't know. That's not my job!"
  24. He's trending in the right direction, unlike some other young players on the team. If the Sox have the right coaching staff, they can teach him to be a better defender and get him to keep approaching his at bats in the best way possible.
  25. As I've said before, the Red Sox offered a LARGER contract than what the Rangers gave him. Eovaldi went back to the Sox after receiving the TEX offer and requested the original Sox offer and Bloom said no. They had already spent the money elsewhere.
