  1. @SmittyOnMLB I'm told by a couple of people that Jarren Duran should be fine after leaving yesterday's Red Sox game with a toe contusion. Precautionary. No X-rays were necessary and nobody has been flown to Houston to be part of the taxi squad just in case.
  2. (MLB Leaders, not AL only) @itsbrianbarrett Raffy .530 SLG - 11th .877 OPS - 12th .256 ISO - 11th 29 HR - t-9th 85 RBIs - t-8th 52.8% hard hit rate - 10th He’s gonna hit his numbers despite some bad luck … .286 BABIP - 100th of 139 qualifiers Per the numbers, he's maybe the 3rd best hitter in the AL this season behind Ohtani and Robert.
  3. @bostonsportsinf Red Sox Strength of remaining schedule Hardest in the AL 1. Red Sox - .541 2. Guardians - .527 3. Rays - .521
  4. He's been good. I think both Reyes and Bernardino were good finds for 2023, but I don't think they are guys you can count on for multiple years.
  5. It's hard to say who is doing a better job because I think they are set out to do two different things. DD's one singular goal is to make it to the playoffs. Bloom's goal is to grow the farm and turn the franchise into a long term steamroller like the Dodgers while staying competitive. I think the MLB results are important, but secondary to the Sox FO.
  6. This FO lucked into finding Reyes and got Urias for a good deal. Previously, they were trying to fill holes with replacement level guys that had zero upside. When you consistently have to do that, rather than use AAA prospects that may have a higher ceiling, you're limiting that value you are providing to your team. For example, if Yorke or Rafaela were in AAA earlier this year, they are likely called up to fill the gaps rather than running to the waiver wire. The biggest problem this pipeline currently has is high level pitching in the upper minors. It should look better next season as SoxProspects projects the following for AAA bullpen: Liu, Fernandez, Guerrero, Zeferjahn, Politi. That doesn't include guys with prior MLB experience like Robertson, Kelly, Jacques. They may not all work out, but that group could provide a much better spark than what we got at times from Faria, Scott, Lamet, Dermody, Garza, etc.
  7. @StudyHallSharp Michael Lorenzen threw a no-hitter against the Nationals last week His xFIP in that start per Fangraphs? 5.85 Phillies fans don't seem to be too upset right now. We'll see how they feel after his next start.
  8. And it's not necessarily just "trading the big names," but also trading a bunch of the inventory down on the farm. When you do that, you run into situation like BOS had in 21-23 where you just run out of replacement options and have big holes in your lineup (Jack Lopez, Yairo Munoz, Danny Santana, Franchy, Abraham Almonte, Yolmer Sanchez, etc.).
  9. He was a 3rd round pick. Had a lot of injuries in college and ended '21 on IL. Surgery prevented him from pitching last season. Gambrell was also the PTBNL, so he may have just been an afterthought? Has back of the rotation upside.
  10. @tylermilliken_ Kyle Teel since his promotion to High-A: 7 Games - 35 PA .414/.514/.483/.997 (12-for-29) 2 2B 7 RBI 6/5 K/BB
  11. 681 OPS since 5/3.
  12. Yeah, you can't bring a guy in A ball up to play in MLB.
  13. Top prospects traded per the above: Lee O'Hoppe Vierling Brown Romero The rest were outside their top 20 on the rankings I looked at (FanGraphs and Baseball America).
  14. I think they won't go full robo ump, but a challenge system where the manager gets a few calls to challenge each game.
  15. It was echoing in my brain because you keep saying that.
  16. After getting 8 days off, Lorenzen's next start: 3.1 Inn 1K 1BB 8H 6ER Maybe they should have saved some bullets for a guy who hasn't been a fulltime starter?
  17. Moniak wasn't a top 20 prospect for them in 2022 per FanGraphs. He was highly ranked back in 2017 or whatever, but his ranking had dropped before that trade.
  18. Except that owners get more revenue if when the team makes a playoff run. Is it the 40M to minimize the gap between the Phillies and the Sox? IDK.
  19. It's tough when you have to play catch up. It's even tougher when you fall behind multiple teams. They need two of the following to drop out of it: SEA, TOR, HOU. After a stretch of playing the Nats, KC and sweeping the Yanks, they are still 3 games back.
  20. It was in front of it, just WELL in front of it.
  21. Career high 31.3% k rate for JD this year. He's looking ok right now, but I don't know how long he'll be able to keep it up. Home OPS at LAD: 753 604 OPS in Aug and time on the IL.
  22. "Past on Yoshida and put that money towards pitching." If they are signing JT and JD, how much savings is there in keeping JD over Yoshida? Not much IMO. Plus, his offensive stats when playing the field are putrid. It was time to move on from JD. That move is a nonissue to me.
  23. Paxton vs Javier
  24. His numbers are similar to what Nipper did at 25. Maybe he’ll be good for a while, maybe he’ll be mediocre…
