  1. I think his fastball is what it is. I think some posters were just too high on Bello. He's a mid rotation guy (on a contender) probably and that's fine. If the Sox can start churning some of those guys out, it's very good!
  2. Even if his repertoire doesn't change, he's probably more likely to stick as a back end starter the manager just pulls after 5.
  3. I don't believe you dislike DD or any of the GM's. My ranking has been: Theo DD Ben Bloom Duquette (the only guy I maybe dislike after thinking about it)
  4. Coming off another injury, I think he goes back to the pen for the rest of 2023. Should he be a starter in 2024? That's another story. Unlike Houck, he was more likely to be able to pitch 7 innings. Overall results were about the same. His upside is maybe a middle rotation guy, but the ongoing injury concerns push him to the pen for me. I wanted him to be a starter, I just don't think his body can do it.
  5. His 15.3 HR/FP isn't that far off from what he was doing in the minors. He throws his below average 4 seamer too much and it gets hit hard (3 of the HR's in July). His slider has been pretty terrible this season too (-7 Run Value).
  6. Do we give Bloom credit for not trading these prospects away when DD may have? The arguments are just always a slippery slope to get the person to favor the guy they like.
  7. You can say that Casas is a DD guy for sure. He definitely had a role in signing him. However, there is no chance he had any idea who Perales or Bello was at the time they were signed. He had no idea who Duran or Murphy were prior to the draft. Ultimately attributing most players to a specific CBO/GM doesn't work well. Feel free to complain about FA deals, trades or 1st round draft picks, but anything else is kind of hard to pin down on the guy at the top. It really comes down to the whole system that should get credit or blame.
  8. Whitlock will go to the pen and pitch ok.
  9. @ChrisCotillo By rule, Pablo Reyes can only spend 20 days on a minor league rehab assignment. He's out of options. That clock expires Sunday. Then Red Sox must make a decision. The off day Monday could bring some news. Who goes? Arroyo - one year left of control, 93 wRC+ since July 1, but hasn't been impressive this year, always injured Kiké - absolutely horrible on the field at offense and defense, but Cora loves him, contracts ends this year Chang - best defender at SS, 186 OBP for the year Reyes - better hitter than Chang, but worse fielder Chang, Reyes and Arroyo have all been replacement level this year. Arroyo has much higher upside than the other two. Kiké deserves to be DFA'd, but I have doubts that Bloom would do that to Cora, unless Cora was ok with its impact on the clubhouse. I think it's most likely that Reyes is just put through waivers. He's a 0.8 fWAR guy in 175 games. He's the type of guy that gets waived all the time and signed as an MiLB FA in the offseason.
  10. @tylermilliken_ Chaim Bloom and Eddie Romero have made it clear the Red Sox will decide their fate during this stretch. Sucks to lose all the momentum you’ve been building the last few weeks. Yesterday was such a winnable game. Lots riding on this Mets series. You better show up. At this point, they really need to almost sweep the Mets for the Sox to really be big time buyers this deadline. A tough two game series followed by a West Coast swing to SF/SEA isn't how you want to go into the trade deadline when you're behind in the Wild Card. Sox had some momentum, but laid two straight eggs. I don't think they'll be sellers, but they'll do some sort of half measure that we won't be all that happy about IMO.
  11. Zanatello stated he's flying back to Boston tomorrow and signing on Saturday for a press conference. Teel and other top picks will probably be there as well. Zanatello's contract may come in higher than expected. Unlikely to sign Call?

  13. 100% agree. Waiting on an injured guy to come back is generally a fool's errand. We can't expect Sale or Whitlock to be able to pitch at 100%. We don't know if Houck turns into Matt Clement. Story probably is an upgrade, but we can't expect his bat to be ready for the middle of the order. He had a substantial cold streak last season before he got hot.
  14. Initially, there were lots of concerns about his defense being an issue and him having to move to off position (possibly LF). If he moved to LF, it puts lots of pressure on the bat to play at a high level. Fortunately, his defense now is closer to average/slightly below average. It's ok enough that if he's hitting the way we expect him to do that he can stay at 2B for a while. The issue the Sox will run into is what to do about Story if Yorke and Mayer are both ready to play full time.
  15. Over/Under on Mad Stork posts tomorrow: 3.5.
  16. So much for that extension everyone wants to give Bello! Option him back to WOO!
  17. I like what Yu Chang has done at SS, so I'd just leave him there. I like what Story did last year at 2B. It makes for a much better defensive alignment than they've thrown out there at times this year (Kiké & Valdez).
  18. When Story comes back he should play 2B not SS. Just to jump the gun a little on a future argument...
  19. Opposing pitcher is lefty so they are sitting a few lefties on a West Coast trip. No conspiracy here.
  20. @SmittyOnMLB Jake Faria clears waivers and is outrighted to Worcester
  21. Red Sox OBP over the previous 34 PA's is only 176! They should probably sell. Terrible offense.
  22. It's your dinner, not mine. It's not like you said you were eating something disgusting like crunchy peanut butter.
  23. Don't be a pizza prude.
  24. Goat cheese pizza isn't an LA thing though. Goat cheese can be good on a pizza at times...
