Wong C Casas 1B Reyes 2B Story SS Devers 3B Abreu LF Rafaela CF Verdugo RF Yoshida DH That's a much stronger defensive unit, especially up the middle. How long is this f***ing bridge? With a good rotation and a defensive SS, they should have been able to compete this year. Why can't they be better after tweaking the roster this offseason? Are people just assuming Bloom can't do it? Or are people assuming the Sox won't do it?

    Cora is a decent manager and I don't know what kind of miracles we expected out of him when that's the rotation he was given. The bullpen was 3rd in innings pitched and overall compares favorably to Tampa Bay's.

    Abreu didn't have a dramatic platoon split in AAA this year: LHP 788 OPS RHP 968 OPS That's a guy you roll out everyday. Refsnyder only had an 835 OPS vs LHP with worse D than Abreu.

    You're not going to get much back, just salary and 40 man relief.

    835 OPS, but his 459 vs RHP makes him useless otherwise and his glove leaves him solely in LF. That split is the same as Duran's overall OPS for 2023. Why not just go with Duran fulltime then (749 OPS vs LHP)? If he was hitting 1000 vs LHP, you keep him like in 2022, but that's not the case anymore.

    Atlanta is probably the best model right now. LAD is up there for sure. TB only works because of their black magic the do on pitcher’s that also blows out their arms a year later.

    Baserunning should get better by just having an infusion of younger talent. Getting rid of Verdugo may help in that regard too. Situational hitting is more of an organizational philosophy than a player acquisition issue IMO.

    I agree. If there's a new GM, he's gone. If Bloom is here, he doesn't find a trade partner and sits on Verdugo until he reaches FA.

    I didn't realize this because I don't read WOO boxscores, but Dalbec has played RF in 35 G. I'm not sure I've heard how his defense looks.
