  1. It's no biggie to replace the 5th starter.
  2. Crawford seems most likely to stick in the rotation at least over the short term.
  3. Yale?
  4. Prior to 2018, he said the Sox were going to miss the playoffs. 2016 and 2017 were fluke AL East titles. The team was due for regression. David Price was coming off the "magically healing arm" injury nonsense from 2017 and was not a sure bet for the rotation. Porcello was going to go back to being a 5 ERA guy.
  5. That bullpen had Ottavino and Whitlock. Saying they had no closer was a manager's choice IMO.
  6. If the Mets win a lottery selection, their pick will not be moved back. Only picks after the top 6 can be moved back.
  7. When did we drop in the draft because of tax implications? edit: Cam Cannon draft
  8. The views of overly obsessed posters don't reflect the majority of fans. If Old Red and moon are agreeing, I'm definitely feeling good about my position that the Story signing had nothing to do with appeasing fans.
  9. No.
  10. Cash is a very good manager. Seems like he gets more out of his players than Cora does to me. I'd snap him up in a heartbeat.
  11. Yes. I have said that the injuries held him back in a post this AM. That's why I said "could have been" a mid rotation starter. The injuries have effectively ended that shot.
  12. Appeasing the fans? The Story signing came out of LF. The Sox had just come off an ALCS run. I don't think much appeasement needed to be done at that point. Story was the buy low replacement for Xander since they figured they weren't going to be able to re-sign him.
  13. He could have been a mid rotation starter.
  14. I don't know if we ever see 2021 Whitlock again.
  15. 84 wins doesn't get them into the playoffs. They'd wind up like 4 games out of it at year end.
  16. Oh, I don't know about the Mets stuff.
  17. Most? Not even close. Vast minority at best. By the time that series started, it was over. There was hope after the Yankees sweep in mid August, but they split with HOU when they needed to win the series and then lost to LAD at home and got swept by HOU at home to end AUG. It was obvious that Betts et al ended their season the last weekend in August at the latest. I think the season died early August when TOR swept them at home.
  18. He'd be part of the injured brigade.
  19. Many forget about this. I don't see the comparison at all. Maybe a better comparison would be Joba? IDK.
  20. Whitlock would be able to do it if the injuries didn't hold him back.
  21. Sliding him into the 5th slot with a mid season injury and Wikelman Gonzalez taking over for the 2nd half!
  22. I don't think you believed that at the time.
  23. He didn't have to wait until March to sign Story... Also, was Story the right signing?
  24. Pythag had 2019 as a 87 win team. They weren't a dumpster fire. The pitchers just had a hangover from the year before (13-17 in April). It was fine. I give that team a pass.
  25. They can lose out the rest of the way and it doesn't matter. The only impact now is draft order. They should just play Abreu, Rafaela, Story (reps) and Valdez the rest of the way. I'd sit any bullpen arm you actually value like Chris Martin. Why risk him hurting himself in a meaningless game?
