  1. If Masa rebounds, Story returns to form and the kids in the OF stay consistent, adding an ace pitcher would actually go a long way. A large part of the reason this team fell apart was that the bullpen was overtaxed.
  2. That's not what Cora said though. He said the goal for Chris Sale's offseason would be to work towards trying to pitch the first game in Seattle, not that Cora was handing it to him.
  3. If Bloom won 85 games in '22 and '23, he'd still have a job. His lack of thought towards the starting rotation this season is what doomed him. His poor communication with the players is why last season's team tanked.
  4. I think they are going to try camel through the eye of a needle. Might work?
  5. And I don't think it was an insurmountable disaster. I think there are ways that good organizations can work around the last few years of a dead contract. The Dodgers seem to be able to do with with Trevor Bauer and still have Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Clayton Kershaw, Chris Taylor, etc.
  6. At some point, they need to be the BOSTON RED SOX and stop penny pinching a little. I get that they can't go over the CBT every year, but Sale is coming off the books next season. Having one bad contract isn't going to kill a 230M budget.
  7. I think it's a different mentality for sure. Some guys can probably keep going. Some guys probably need the additional playoff push. The 162 games are really a slog. I can see how the end of a non-playoff year is like letting the air out of a balloon.
  8. Verdugo has turtled since the trade deadline (655 since ASB). Turner is slowing down due to age/injuries (543 OPS in Sept). Story has just been bad since coming back (543 OPS). Masa 607 Sept. Rafaela 697 Sept. Fine? Duvall 479 Sept. Wong 553 Sept. Urias 658 Sept. McGuire 478 Sept. Reyes 431 Sept. Valdez, Devers and Abreu are the only guys hitting.
  9. There's a difference between the "it's a bad contract" and the commentary about Boras stopping the bidding and whatever. I give them credit for focusing on the guy they really liked and just giving him the money. They were hard pressed to do that for others. They just may have chose the wrong person to do that for. He needs another season before he's written off though. Also, Rafaela, Duran and Abreu are still largely unknowns and can still fall flat in 2024. The depth may be a mirage.
  10. There are only 23 players with more than 5 bWAR. That's less than 1 per team. In fact, only 14 teams have a player with 5 bWAR, less than half the league.
  11. We all have our own faults.
  12. If they do that for a player like Yamamoto, will it matter? As long as they're bringing in the right players, I don't see the problem in it.
  13. Focusing on Duvall/Turner/Masa when they needed starting pitching was an obviously bad choice. I think we all agreed on that at the time. It made no sense to wait out the market the way he did.
  14. Chaim probably had a say in the top few rounds and the overall direction of the draft. The CBO is the one setting the tone. The scouts and others are grading the players.
  15. It's true that pitching is very risky. Think of Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker. Leiter isn't a top 100 prospect now. Kumar Rocker got TJS.
  16. Schilling is the worst. Just more evidence how horrible and self centered he is. Wake didn't want the news to get out, but Schill put it out there anyway. What an *******.
  17. Antonetti has been with Cleveland since '99. Why would he leave to go somewhere to get fired in 4 years?
  18. Who's the shiny new toy though?
  19. I believe it was originally included in the All-Round in 1904, but was deemed to much of a risk to spectators. Most likely it'll return at the '28 Olympics in LA where it'll be featured on the Santa Monica boardwalk. If the robot combatants get out of control, the psychic cat on 3rd street should be able to quelle the violence.
  20. For one glorious evening he was.
  21. I am old enough to remember how great he looked in an Expos uni.
  22. NoT eNoUgH ShOrTsToPs LiStEd!
  23. Larry would have cared. Bring back Larry!
  24. Fuld - promotion Sabean - promotion Ng - lateral Hazen - lateral (though I think he has taken himself out of consideration) I'm not sure if there are dark horse candidates or who has the inside track.
