  1. That's quite the mountain they need to climb to get back into it. It won't be impossible, but it'll be rough. I think it's pretty much over.
  2. Next season is year 5. If he gets there, it's probably time for him to try to push for the postseason a little harder than he did in 22 and 23. This is his team now. We said last offseason that it was a big offseason for him, but if he can't figure out the starting rotation going into next year (and a plan for its future), he needs to go. Sale - #5/IL, can't count on Whitlock - put him in the pen Bello - fine for a #2 Houck - back of the rotation arm/bulk arm Crawford - back of the rotation arm/bulk arm Pivetta - back of the rotation arm/bulk arm Drohan - depth at the end of the year at best They clearly need to add two arms IMO. Bello Yamamoto Montgomery Sale Houck Depth: Crawford/Pivetta/Drohan(late) I feel comfortable with that rotation. You won't count on Sale to go the distance, but have two bulk guys in the pen that can fill in during his last season. I don't want Whitlock in the rotation anymore. He just can't stay healthy.
  3. How was Yu Chang seen as a decent SS option this offseason? He had less than 200 career MLB innings at SS prior to this season.
  4. Sale may start this week? Whitlock should be able to get into the pen at some point? Houck is further behind than initially reported.
  5. How was it too late? The prices at the deadline showed that it was time to sell.
  6. They didn't acquire Chang until Spring Training and well after Story had his surgery. Is Change an average SS? At best, he's a 0.5 fWAR guy fulltime? Is that average?
  7. Erases the memories of Rent-a-wreck.
  8. He had a very special defensive season. One for the ages!
  9. Missed the Montgomery trade. That value was Drohan and Hickey. I don't think the Sox should have done the Civale/Giolito trades. Those asks are too high. I think they could have figured out some of the other ones, but would have passed on the Hill and Lorenzen price tags. Personally, the team should be sorted out in the offseason and not have to wait for the "trade deadline" because you've already lost a few extra games by that point.
  10. Even Rich Hill has an expiration date. According to Statcast, he's close to his. Doubt we see him in a Sox uni again.
  11. The general consensus seemed to be in the offseason: Bullpen - Good job! Starting Rotation - What the f***? It would only work out if Sale, Whitlock, Bello, Pivetta, Kluber and Paxton all stayed healthy. It had a 25% chance of working? Offense - Fine? SS was a huge question mark, but everything else seemed to be ok enough. Turner was a decent pickup, but older. Masa was taking a big chance on an unknown. Aside from the glaring hole at SS, it was ok. If Kiké had just had an average year, it would have prevented a lot of frustration.
  12. I think they wanted to be good this year, they just were too up and down. If Kiké wasn't such a shitshow and the injuries to Houck/Sale/Whitlock didn't happen, maybe this team is in the thick of it and then you do make a trade or two? IDK. They say they have a north star, but the ship seems kind of rudderless at times. They just have a good fishing pole.
  13. The loser attitude to me is to go for it in a season when the team is obviously not good enough. They just aren't! The loser attitude is being shown on the field right now. Adding a player or two wouldn't have fixed the many issues this team had. If you're not going to play to win, then why play at all? Good point. Should have dealt Turner, Duvall and maybe Paxton.
  14. Bloom said he only wanted to get controllable starters. He reached out on Cease and the ChiSox wanted Bello. https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/btv-2023-trade-deadline-roundup/ The trades the Sox could have done: Yarbrough - Yuck Flaherty - traded for value of Drohan or Walter/Alcantara Lorenzen - traded for value of Romero or Drohan/Meidroth Hill - traded for value of Wikelman/Castro Civale - value of someone better than Yorke, but MLB ready, Sox don't have that guy Lynn - Yuck Giolito/Lopez - value of Yorke and Rafaela Which of those trades are you jumping on? Hill and Flaherty are the only 10/20 trades listed. If they trade for Hill (should have just signed him last offseason) and Flaherty, how much does it improve their chances?
  15. If he knew the strike zone the way Pedey did, he would already be on the roster. With the way he's hitting, he's forcing the issue though. It's great to see.
  16. The "apologist" term came around long before people were hot and bothered about bashing. The only thing people ever asked was for people to name who the specific apologists were, but nobody would ever say which posters were the apologists. Why complain about certain posters and posting behavior without saying who they are? It's so weird. Bash him all you want. You do it anyway. We all do it. Who hasn't bashed him about something? When it comes around to this offseason, the team will make some more weird decisions and we'll all dogpile on them again.
  17. If you "told it like it is" you should be talking about the on going injury issues of JD, Nate, Wacha and Xander's 676 OPS since 5/3. You just like to post about past Red Sox when they are playing well to stick it to the Front Office. Who cares? The players are gone! Worry about the guys that are here! You disappeared for a long stretch last month which just happened to coincide with the Sox playing well. What a surprise! You don't tell it like it is at all. You're just looking for the next rainy day. If you really told it like it is, you'd be more even handed.
  18. Even the "apologists" complain about the dumb s*** the FO has done. I guess it just hasn't been ENOUGH?
  19. Having anything good to say is being a "Bloom apologist" even though most of us wouldn't grade him higher than a C and wouldn't be upset if he was fired. Ok.
  20. Story told management he wasn't ready and that he wanted to use as much time as he was allowed to use. He's forced to come back on Wednesday per the rules. Is this a complaint about Urias? He had 4 hits in the series and looked ok. Looked much better than Arroyo/Reyes/Valdez. He was a 2 fWAR guy the previous 2 years. He can be an MLB starting player until the young guys are ready.
  21. Wrong Paulino. Eddinson.
  22. That wasn't the price tag for starting pitching at this deadline. Which trade would you have done that you could easily slide these prospects into. Especially, now that Paulino is ranked 24th in the system, not 9th.
  23. Always kinda like tha guy!
  24. Still, the Jays are ADDING to their roster, not taking away? Thinking they'd dump Berrios at his lowest value is kind of silly.
  25. Jerkoffs.
