  1. How's the search going? According to McAdam: According to multiple sources, the Red Sox have been been met with a number of rejections by some targeted candidates as they seek to find a replacement to replace Chaim Bloom, fired in September. Some of those prospective hires have been put off by the level of turnover that’s taken place in the Baseball Operations department over the last dozen years or so. The new hire will be the fifth person in charge of the department since 2011. And increasingly, sources add, there’s concern about the surrounding infrastructure. The new hire will not only be inheriting manager Alex Cora, whose job has been guaranteed by ownership for at least 2024, but also, a front office that includes several executives who’ve been part of the organization for more than two decades, along with various other department heads who come with the job. Sam will still be there. Eddie, BOH and Cora will still be there. How will the new CBO have any autonomy. They're basically being plugged into the Red Sox machine and expected to completely change the results somehow.
  2. Only so many pitchers that can be acquired. I think some expectations need to be tempered.
  3. More than likely.
  4. Problem is that signing Duvall isn't "adding" to the Sox, it's just not taking away.
  5. Does Theo's "bridge year" comment count?
  6. MLB is probably excited that people are TALKING about the division series even if there is controversy. Baseball is so far behind other sports that not many people care anymore.
  7. His glove isn't as good anymore, but he has the position versatility of coming up as a corner IFer. I think he could play all over the place if they wanted him to.
  8. Sox had a big problem with too many DH's this season. Signing JD would be a mistake. They need to treat Masa as if he's the DH going forward.
  9. Just not during the season though?
  10. People have been saying this lately, but the Sox just came off an ALCS trip. I don't buy it.
  11. I mean, I've seen some shams in my day, I don't think this was one of them.
  12. Chaim's s***ing the bathtub moment.
  13. You can't unring that ball once you're are too far down the rabbit hole by putting the toothpaste back in the tube of crossing the rubicon.
  14. I'm not saying to do away with the best of 3 series, just to get rid of the days off.
  15. The budget sizes were fine. The issues with the budgets were how Bloom managed them.
  16. It could have been if multiple pitchers were added. I think the Sox were playing decently enough, but the wind was taken out of their sails. The absolutely turtled down the stretch to fall below .500.
  17. Year by year. I try not to forecast things years into the future like some prognosticators on here. As far as I know, 2025 could like like 2018 redux. Not likely though.
  18. I mean, the budget was still within spitting distance of the CBT. It's not like the Sox are in the poorhouse. The money just wasn't spent wisely.
  19. Statements made after the firing could have been scapegoated. I'll stick to the stories I hear prior to the firing.
  20. Just reduce the timing between the end of the season and the divisional series. No reason the Wild Card can't be the day after the regular season and the ALDS/NLDS the day after the Wild Card (ignoring ticketing). It's the only way to really make it harder on the Wild Card teams.
  21. I worry about the scapegoating too.
  22. I need to see the spending first. I've heard the "top priority" talk about various players in the previous few years. Not all of it has come around.
  23. Every team in the league needs to sign pitching. I just don't believe the Sox can get 3 that are near Bello level.
  24. Orioles had back to back seasons where they could have had big trade deadlines, but they chose not to. We'll see if they are able to have a big offseason. I don't know if the owner has the willingness.
  25. Big IF there IMO.
