The way to really improve the D would have been to slide Story over to 2b (since he's going to need to get out of the way for Mayer eventually) and acquire a glove first SS for the short term.
It seems to me that if they thought he was worth the money, they would have given it to him. They keep getting linked to him, but are probably hoping for a deep discount so that the contract matches what they feel he is worth (i.e. much less than what was projected prior to the offseason).
I said EARLIER that a weak side platoon for 1b wasn't much to worry about. It was a bigger deal to attain a platoon bat when Dalbec was the primary 1b IMO.
"Hey John, once you hire me I think it'll be a really good idea for me to just trade Mookie as my first big plan to remake the franchise. It's going to be awesome."
I'm sure that's exactly how he was hired.
Why waste his at bats in Worcester. He's not going to learn anything more there? He's just going to keep hitting whatever he sees and OPS over 900. He needs to face some adversity and learn from it.
He's too passive when he's worried about the strike zone. His whole batting approach is to see the ball and hit the ball. He's never going to be a great hitter. You just hope he gets about 700 OPS and move on with your life.
