The trade could have been worse:
@TonyMassarotti
Hmm. Think the Red Sox could have gotten Stanton for Verdugo?
Just remember this for the next time someone wants to quote this GOOBER.
What are you guys complaining about? MLBPipeling (the greatest of all prospect evaluations) says Dick Fitts is better than Luis Perales!
@BOSSportsGordo
Newly acquired Richard Fitts slots in as @MLBPipeline’s #10 Red Sox prospect and their #2 pitching prospect.
He’s behind Wikelman Gonzalez in their Sox pitching prospect rankings.
Per MLBTradeRumors:
Boston doesn’t need to add (Fitts) to the 40-man roster until next offseason to keep him out of the Rule 5 draft, but it’s possible he pitches his way into the MLB rotation mix at some point during the summer.
On Beni vs Verdugo:
Since 2020
Beni 4.1 fWAR
Verdugo 7 fWAR
I'm not seeing the comp here? Most of Beni's value came from 2018 when he had 5 fWAR, a season he has never replicated again. He may be a true one hit wonder.
Cora made a point to mention that he wanted to focus on everyone competing from day one in Spring Training. It is clear that Verdugo isn't fully invested in being a MLBer 100% of the time. He shows up late and gets benched for in game issues. His ceiling isn't super high. I think they'd rather have a guy busting their ass out there with less talent than a guy with more talent just coasting through their career.
BREAKING: The New York Yankees are acquiring outfielder Alex Verdugo in a trade with the Boston Red Sox for right-handeres Richard Fitts, Greg Weissert and Nicholas Judice, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.
