I think they need to sign somebody soon to at least calm the mood down or at least make certain that their targets aren't getting away now. Focus on their two guys and go get them.
It's the same thing that Mazz suggested yesterday. I don't know if it's groupthink or just them having a good read on ownership by now.
I've said all along that Monty was going to get overpaid. I've said all along that Snell wasn't my type of pitcher. I could see them going for Monty because he seems like he could at least be a workhorse to give you high quality innings, but that's something you can get a little more cheaply. Makes sense that they would potentially skip past these two.

Zack Wheeler, Walker Buehler, Corbin Burnes, Mike Soroka, John Means, Max Fried are all UFAs after 2024. It’s a good time to snag an ace if you need one.
Time to start the Off-Season 24-25 Thread!

According to @alexspeier, it doesn’t seem like the Red Sox have changed their stance about trading for Corbin Burnes or Shane Bieber.
“Burnes is an unlikely target given he’ll be a free agent after next season and seems unlikely to sign an extension before testing the market. Bieber likewise has just one year of control remaining, though he seems at least open to the idea of a longer-term deal.”
Also, Shota Imanaga is expected to visit the states next week and could be using Eduardo Rodriguez’s deal as a “reference point.”
If he knew, he wouldn't have done the Betts dance at the Winter Weekend and then told everyone it was going to be awesome. He has no clue on how to be coy.
@LouMerloni
It’s time to walk the dog in the morning and reassess where the Sox are and what’s the best path. Just telling you now, you’re not going to like it.

Get it straight from the Guvnuh's mouth... If ownership won't pay for 10 years of Yamamoto, there's no way they'd pay for 7 years of a lesser pitcher in Snell or Montgomery.
Manea is awful. If he couldn't be successful with the Padres, it won't work out anywhere. Lorenzen isn't an improvement over the guys already on staff IMO. Once you get down to that level, just go with Crawford and Houck.
For example, his pitch band is more similar to Maeda than Yamamoto. Maeda is good, but not someone teams have been willing to give 6 years to in his 30's.
Age, plus they only pitch once per week in Japan on a set schedule. I'm not saying he'll suck, but that there's increased risk that his game won't play as well.
