Rafaela got a $10,000 signing bonus.
In 2019, he was hitting 754 in the GCL. There's a 95%+ chance DD had no idea who Rafaela was by the time he was fired.
He's ready. He will always chase. He will rarely take a BB. He has the 2nd longest streak w/o a BB (99 PA's) in MLB right now. His defense was the calling card. It's why he's here. His athleticism is why he's able to put the ball in play so often.
None of this is a surprise to people who were following him the past few years.
Maybe less time behind the plate will keep his OPS even higher? I know there was always talk of UTIL Wong while he was in MiLB after coming over from the Doyers. If Campbell is producing well enough to stick, I'd let him be the fulltime guy though as he has no split issues and is very athletic.
He was before my time. Tito is the best manager of my lifetime IMO. Morgan Magic was cool, but fleeting. Hobson did so much blow that he ended up being uncool.
From 2016-2020, JBJ was a very valuable player. If you don't believe that, I don't know what to tell you.
99 OPS +, with GG defense.
He was paid 30M to earn almost 16bWAR in those years. Any GM would take that in CF.
The Wild Card game in 2021 was cool, but even then I think the rivalry died off during the weird 2012-2015 years. Both teams fell off at points. When the teams got hot again it was with all new players and the animosity just wasn't there. It's played out IMO.
When he's tried to be more patient in AA/AAA, he just fell behind in the count and had worse OPS. It might not be what you want, but he needs to take his hacks.
Maybe? I think the tickets were probably already sold. I don't think he's in line to earn additional money because of it. Maybe he gets a cut from Aramark sales, but I don't know how substantial it is.
We've known for the past few years that Rafaela's k zone recognition would look like this. I don't think sending him back to AAA would fix anything. He's a guy who is going to go up there and take a few healthy swings. That's why he's unlikely to have a higher than 750 OPS.
2011 couldn't get across the finish line because they had no starting pitching in September and were dragging out a soon to be retired Wakefield. Wake had a 5.94 ERA over his final 7 starts with zero QS.
851 OPS
33 R
33.1 IP
Only by those who believed someone so young couldn't push a deal like that over the finish line and/or have the authority to get it done. Also, Theo had a lot of haters at the time.
