  1. Trading Masa would be a heavy lift and clear a big roster burden for the franchise. That's a big offseason move if he can pull that off.
  2. Some of us have been asking him to be re-signed to be the backup 2B after he came back in '21. He's right handed, had a good attitude and played adequate defense. I don't know why Bloom just didn't bring him back in '22 or '23 as a bench player.
  3. If I spend $200 on dinner for my family, it's not expensive according to my wife. If I spend $200 on bourbon for myself, it's expensive according to my wife. Masataka doesn't have the same inherent value as Gausman. The cost is similar, but not worth it. It's overly expensive to have a platoon DH on your roster unless you really value that player. I bet the Jays wouldn't value him highly.
  4. Gio 19M AAV Wacha 16 AAV Lugo 15 AAV I don't think two pitchers were in their budget. Henry said Breslow could only get one scoop, not two.
  5. If Houck was going to replicate this over and over for the next few years, you can make the case he's in the conversation for sure. We've only seen this once out of him, so will the previous injury or performance issues come back? 180 IP and a 3.00 ERA is basically a TOTR guy now, right? It's not a CY season, but halfway through the season he looked like: 16 G, 2.18 ERA, 2.22 FIP, 103 IP That's Skubal numbers.
  6. If 22 year old Greg Maddux showed up today pitching with the same velo he had in 1988, he'd carve up lineups even more than he did back then.
  7. Red Sox had a good offense and had lots of leads. They can't pitch their best 4 relief pitchers in every game. At some point, the other relievers are going to have just pitch in the 6th inning with a one run lead. Poof, blow save. That's life.
  8. I'm not sure they sign a FA SP. I think it's more likely they trade for a younger one that we haven't discussed on here. Fried is a huge injury risk. Flaherty has had a crazy up and down career and Sox could have had him multiple times over the past few years if they wanted. Severino seems like a midrotation guy at best and the Sox are full of those already.
  9. I'm not sure the Royals aren't that much better than the Red Sox they went 12-1 against the second worst team of all time, which is the only reason they are in the playoffs. MINN also went 12-1 against CHW. If the Red Sox had 7 more games against the White Sox, they probably come away with more wins too.
  10. Is the uneasiness due to pitchers getting injured now or true budget limitations from ownership? We'll never get a real answer.
  11. Maybe Breslow picks up a meth habit this offseason?
  12. Last 14 G: 2.90 ERA, 3.49 FIP, 90 IP, 9 QS Sox could have used that after July 1!
  13. Blown saves aren't always on the closer. The Sox had 31 BS, but only 4 were from Kenley. Martin, Slaten and Weissert also had 4. If we go by BS/G, the leaders were Sims, Campbell and Horn.
  14. It's not the reason you're trading him, it's the reason he's not untouchable.
  15. There are clear internal replacements for Abreu and Masa. If you move Casas, I guess the corresponding maneuver is Devers to 1B. However, we don't know if he's capable of playing there. Also, there isn't an internal 3B ready to take over. You'd have to have Meidroth on the roster or put someone else there who hasn't played the position before.
  16. His 4 seamer and split finger are still plus pitches per statcast. He tried using a sinker this year that he hadn't thrown since 2017 and it went very poorly. His slider is a below average pitch a well. Hard to really say if it's a decline or just one bad year.
  17. Yup! It was a kick in the groin that we saw coming for a long time.
  18. People projected Verdugo getting traded and HE GONE! 🤷‍♀️
  19. I think it just means taken off the active MiLB rosters. I checked a few other teams and they all had similar transactions for their 40 man players.
  20. IDK. It seems like enough? We talk trades all the time, but none of us are experts. Something like that I guess.
  21. That's why you make a generous offer that is above what he may be currently worth coming off injury.
