    Not until he's in his late 30's at least. You can put him in LF and he'd be fine. Terrible range. Plus arm (90th percentile arm value). He's better than Manny was.

    One thing he may be doing intentionally or unintentionally is lying by omission. I'm just saying to take what he says with a grain of salt. Former GM's don't currently have a great track record of reliability.

    It seems like Henry wants to get it done, but he's not the only owner at the table. Soto isn't going to give him a $$$ amount as he (and his agent) just wants to go back and forth until he gets the most he can.

    I will say one thing: he seems to be on the Jim Bowden track (former GM who spouts off a lot of stuff because he's no longer in the business) and is trying to make a name for himself. I think his agenda is raising his profile so I'm taking everything with a grain of salt.

    About the same? Sevy is younger, threw more innings and had about the same bWAR as Pivetta last season, but has had a more up and down career recently. Moving to OAK will be good for Sevy as the large foul territory will help him out... Wait... He's playing in a AAA stadium for the next few years and that's the reason they had to overpay him? Ok.

    Moncada was an Int'l free agent under the old bonus pool rules. No different than any other teen signing at the time. They got a 100% tax on his contract since they cleared the bonus limit and were unable to spend more than $300k on any one Int'l signing the following two years. Two years later, they weren't even allowed to sign Int'l guys because of their shenanigans. In 2017, the CBA created a spending cap which no longer allowed teams to go over.

    The continued growth of the younger pitchers will be interesting. Maybe they plateau after one year in the new system, maybe some more guys shine? Guys like Dobbins and Uberstine picked up steam late in the year. Fitts, Sandlin and Priester could be trade fodder. I think Early is called up to AAA midseason and continues to pitch well. He peaks as a 4/5 at best, but his carrying tool is that he throws a lot of pitches well. I think that gets him to the bigs and I've been higher on him than SoxProspects since he was drafted. Still a little unsure about Wehunt. He needs more fine tuning for sure. Monegro's problem is that he doesn't have a reliable fastball. He's a little limited for now, but I'm hopeful they can figure that out.

    It's Wikelman's final option year. Maybe he goes to the pen and is pushed to BOS? More likely he goes the Mata route in the offseason and is brought back on a MiLB deal. Mata does have an outside shot of making the big club at some point this year too. Maybe Kwiatkowski gets a cup of coffee?

    I think it's clear they need another addition to solidify the backend of the pen. Hendriks is a big question mark to me. Chapman is fine enough I guess, but is going to drive everyone wild with his walks. I'm not sure what the plan is for Whitlock. He was never a one inning guy. He was more of an oldschool fireman type role that could come in to shut down a lineup and then pitch the next inning rather than a late inning closer or pure setup guy. I'd keep Criswell/Priester/Fitts all as starters. The only current starters I'd convert are Wikelman and Sandlin.

    He was 5.8 bWAR per 162 in COL. He's 4 bWAR per 162 in BOS. If he didn't miss so much time, we'd have a better read on him. That's a very big IF since he came as damaged goods and it may be an instance where it's going to continue going forward the further he gets into his 30's.

    Well, the pen was 30th in fWAR from 7/21 - end of season last year. Bad: Kelly, Bernardino, Horn, Keller, Booser, Sims and Anderson (not sure any of these are on the Opening Day roster) Good: Martin, Weissert, Guerrero, Jansen, Slaten

    Swanson was a year later. Good case to be made that Swanson ages well and his defense provides value for a long time.

    Who? Xander? Xander was worth it in 2023. He was injured last season. Time will tell. The Padres overpaid, but I think the smaller Sox deal we were discussing at the time still would have made sense.

    Yes, people were EXCITED for JD. People didn't give a s*** about Story. JD coming here was a big deal as the Sox were trying to win a WS. Story wasn't a big deal as the Sox were clearly a waning franchise.
