  1. Thank you everyone. This is your friendly reminder to keep this place politics free and let's move on to anything else.
  2. I specifically mentioned Lopez in my response. You overpaid on a trade for Lopez who had a great 2023, but has just been pretty good otherwise, especially when you look at Statcast (35th percentile run value last year). His only plus pitch last year was his 4 seamer. Hoffman just replaces Martin. You don't lose the Yoshida contract as you attached cash with it. You didn't clarify how much. Now you're paying for a guy that won't even appear.
  3. A few years later, he's got a below market deal!
  4. It's a really terrible pitching staff you created for a very expensive roster. Monty and Gio in the same rotation could be a real expensive stinker. Pablo is fine, but he Sox would have much control over him for what they gave up.
  5. LF at Fenway has provided cover for a lot of poor defensive players: Williams Rice Greenwell Manny Bay Gomes Hanley Yoshida
  6. No, I understood vaguely what happened that the lime tree was grated onto the orange tree and the lime tree failed somehow. Not all oranges are sweet. I wonder what type they were.
  7. One of the most expensive 87 win teams ever created.
  8. Not until he's in his late 30's at least. You can put him in LF and he'd be fine. Terrible range. Plus arm (90th percentile arm value). He's better than Manny was.
  9. He can push back, but it's obvious they weren't REALLY trying to compete. If they were trying, they did a bad job of it.
  10. My guess is that the Sox will continue to ignore Scott, but he'll never get another MLB job.
  11. Walk and chew bubble gum. They should still be able to sign Fried right now if they want to.
  12. One thing he may be doing intentionally or unintentionally is lying by omission. I'm just saying to take what he says with a grain of salt. Former GM's don't currently have a great track record of reliability.
  13. It seems like Henry wants to get it done, but he's not the only owner at the table. Soto isn't going to give him a $$$ amount as he (and his agent) just wants to go back and forth until he gets the most he can.
  14. I will say one thing: he seems to be on the Jim Bowden track (former GM who spouts off a lot of stuff because he's no longer in the business) and is trying to make a name for himself. I think his agenda is raising his profile so I'm taking everything with a grain of salt.
  15. About the same? Sevy is younger, threw more innings and had about the same bWAR as Pivetta last season, but has had a more up and down career recently. Moving to OAK will be good for Sevy as the large foul territory will help him out... Wait... He's playing in a AAA stadium for the next few years and that's the reason they had to overpay him? Ok.
  16. Moncada was an Int'l free agent under the old bonus pool rules. No different than any other teen signing at the time. They got a 100% tax on his contract since they cleared the bonus limit and were unable to spend more than $300k on any one Int'l signing the following two years. Two years later, they weren't even allowed to sign Int'l guys because of their shenanigans. In 2017, the CBA created a spending cap which no longer allowed teams to go over.
  17. The continued growth of the younger pitchers will be interesting. Maybe they plateau after one year in the new system, maybe some more guys shine? Guys like Dobbins and Uberstine picked up steam late in the year. Fitts, Sandlin and Priester could be trade fodder. I think Early is called up to AAA midseason and continues to pitch well. He peaks as a 4/5 at best, but his carrying tool is that he throws a lot of pitches well. I think that gets him to the bigs and I've been higher on him than SoxProspects since he was drafted. Still a little unsure about Wehunt. He needs more fine tuning for sure. Monegro's problem is that he doesn't have a reliable fastball. He's a little limited for now, but I'm hopeful they can figure that out.
  18. It's Wikelman's final option year. Maybe he goes to the pen and is pushed to BOS? More likely he goes the Mata route in the offseason and is brought back on a MiLB deal. Mata does have an outside shot of making the big club at some point this year too. Maybe Kwiatkowski gets a cup of coffee?
  19. I think it's clear they need another addition to solidify the backend of the pen. Hendriks is a big question mark to me. Chapman is fine enough I guess, but is going to drive everyone wild with his walks. I'm not sure what the plan is for Whitlock. He was never a one inning guy. He was more of an oldschool fireman type role that could come in to shut down a lineup and then pitch the next inning rather than a late inning closer or pure setup guy. I'd keep Criswell/Priester/Fitts all as starters. The only current starters I'd convert are Wikelman and Sandlin.
