  1. "Hey, I know I'm under contract, but if we get to the playoffs, I'm just going to sit out." On one hand, I get it. On another, I kind of worry how this will shake out in Boston. This could go sideways and rub a lot of people the wrong way really quickly.
  2. Well, he wasn't a "just play ball" guy last season. He was going to sit out and not pitch the playoffs if any team traded for him and didn't extend him. I guess he does want some sort of pay increase.
  3. He'll pick eventually, just like Casey Kelly had to.
  4. 35 starts? Guess they are going with a much smaller rotation than I thought!
  5. You think Skubal will get less than 250M? If Crochet has back to back 5+ WAR seasons in the next two seasons, you don't think he'd get in that range or more?
  6. Shuggart was corresponding DFA. Some believe Dabol is more of a fringe 1B/LF/DH than a true C. Don't we already have Nathan Hickey for that?
  7. Yes, but you'll also want payroll flexibility to surround them with good players rather than guys circling the toilet like Bregman.
  8. Per fWAR, ATL's offense went 7th, 7th, 1st, 18th over the past 4 years. Not sure they will replicate 2023 again this season, but a top 10 season seems probable.
  9. Good news on Soto and Rivas if they were wrapped up. Haven't looked into the others.
  10. He wouldn't have the first agent who misread the market.
  11. It's reasonable, but I don't want to pay years 4 and 5 and those are the years when Anthony and Campbell should be peaking.
  12. You really want Bailey Horn back I guess?
  13. Until the Sox start cranking out some legitimate starting prospects, I'm going to remain skeptical. Houck took 5 years to develop at the MLB level before becoming a DUDE everyone wanted to extend. Aside from him, there hasn't been much to write home about. I know there's been additional focus and Breslow cares about it more than any of us do, but I'm reticent to believe in a real pitching pipeline here due to team history. I know they are very high on Tolle and I'll be watching his starts closely this year. Don't really have much to say about the other draftees since they didn't pitch in professional games last year. 8 of the 14 pitchers they drafted were after the 10th round and that's really just throwing stuff at the wall and see what sticks. Most likely some relief arms. I'm not sure how moving away from scouting and moving towards metrics and driveline impacted their drafting effectiveness. Maybe they can pick up some more under the radar guys? Maybe it's just more of the same? IDK.
  14. After this year, Perales will only have one option season left to figure out how to be a starter before having to be put on an MLB roster permanently. I think we are 50/50 that he's heading to the pen once he's fully rehabbed and in BOS plans.
  15. Yeah, players can fall off after their prime seasons. Is that surprising?
  16. Sure, no contract is without risk. I think hitters are a bit safer though.
  17. They have a lot of guys that can start, but nobody that jumps off the page at you that needs to be extended: Dobbins, Early, Sandlin, Perales, Fitts, Priester, etc. I don't know if any of them project to be more than a 4 right now at best, so I wouldn't bother extending them as the $ isn't worth the injury risk.
  18. Sure, but we've seen many more pitchers completely lose it when compared to hitters. Trout seems to be a very rare case.
  19. Max ceiling? Hard to say. Right now, he's a 3rd starter max unless he really figures it out. At best he's a #2 if he learns control and can extend his great stretches out during the season and limit the "big innings" that we see in almost every game. "Stuff" wise, he's not a TOTR guy at all. If he's a 2, it's in the vein of Porcello.
  20. Probably higher for a pitcher, but a hitter could at least see diminished production due to an injury.
  21. I'm not sure there is much of a difference between a one year and a two year extension. Also, Bello is set to make 19 and 20M post ARB years. To think Crochet would make anywhere less than that in 2027 and beyond (in an extension) would be ridiculous.
