    Regardless of injury, I think Mayer should stay down through June. I think 3 months of AAA is enough. I'd consider calling him up and just not have him start every day. Do they need Hamilton AND Mayer? Mayer can play 2B/SS/3B. The only difference is that he's not a great pinch runner. I'm not sure that really matters for most of the season TBH.

    Mayer's last 4 games: 8 for 20, 2 2B, 3 HR, 14 RBI, 14% K, 5% K He had a 531 OPS on 4/17 and it's now at 752.

    No players are untouchable, but there isn't a real world return that would be worth it to trade Anthony. I don't believe PITT is going to send Skenes to BOS. There's theoretically a package that could make sense for Skenes to not be untouchable to PITT. I feel similar for Mayer at this moment. If Story goes down (likelihood is still high), they don't have any other SS's anywhere close to MLB ready. Arias is in Low A still. If the Sox are realistically trying to compete this season, they can't just get rid of their depth at a very important defensive position like that when there's been a lot of volatility at that spot in recent years.

    Hancock can be a heavy sinker guy. According to LouMer, the Sox should hit this guy around.

    Crochet wasn't pre-Arb, but I kind of agree. I would have less of a problem with the Rafaela extension if the money was half.

    Probably. I doubt they get one done for Anthony. Maybe they can get one for Mayer.

    Now I haven't made it too far into this but: Grissom doesn't have the body for 1B, but let's consider Masa? Grissom is the same height as Mitch Moreland and taller than Mike Napoli, Kevin Youkilis, Kevin Millar and Doug Mientkiewicz.     I think you extend SOME of the young guys. Guys that have high ceilings. I just don't think Rafaela is that guy. While the contract is "worth it" per FanGraphs' calculations, the Sox would most likely pay him less if they went year to year. The reason you extend guys is to give the players security, while giving yourself a slight bargain. That's not happening with Rafaela. With Bello, I think the price was a little high, but for a starting pitcher with Bello's ceiling, it's fine. If they extended Dobbins and Fitts, I'd be fine with it too because of how expensive pitchers are (they'd most likely be way cheaper than Bello). Anthony and Mayer SHOULD be prime candidates for extensions. They are potentially future All Star guys. Same as Campbell. Those are the everyday guys that you try to lock up. I don't think you try to lock up future 8-9th hitters unless it's a discount and it wasn't here. You lock up the core of the team. I don't think Rafaela is that. It's not a knock on Rafaela either. He's a good player. He's just not a guy you're building a team around.

    Next time Casas hits a HR that reaches the first row, I'd like him to not be watching it from the batter's box. That's all.

    Especially with him not exactly tearing the cover off the ball. He has enough to worry about offensively, that I'd rather him just figure that out this season.

    They should just extend every 1 fWAR guy for 6/48 then because it'll be justified per FanGraphs' calculations. No negative impact to the payroll for that!

    I had the same question the day the deal was signed. He needs to exceed expectations to make the deal worthwhile for the Sox.
