  1. There are three Banana Ball rules that could increase scoring: 1. stealing 1st base during and at bat 2. ball 4 sprints 3. golden batter rule (MLB has considered this one)
  2. Swinging at the 1st pitch: Roman 15.5% League Av 33% Rafaela 50.8% Roman is extremely patient for good reason (36.9% of pitches swung at, team lowest). He leads the team in 2-0 count % and 3-0 count % (2nd on the team in total 3-0 counts seen). Rafaela has the extreme opposite approach where he's going to always go down swinging (14.9% looking strikes is lowest for the Sox, 60% of pitches swung at).
  3. Tolle won't be starting MLB this year, so technically he is a Tolle Bridge, but it's a long one.
  4. He's had a high GB rate since being drafted. Remember, he had a 316 SLG in Salem before being promoted to GRE in '23. He is also capable of hitting 500' moonshots.
  5. Arrighetti got lit up in his first start off the IL. Does that mean anything for this start today? Probably not.
  6. Yes, we're going by small sample sizes because it's all we have with Campbell. Duh! Campbell MLB 25: 664 OPS Toro MLB 25: 693 OPS Campbell AAA 830 OPS Toro AAA 25: 883 OPS Toro has been a better hitter than Campbell this year. It's not controversial. Campbell should NOT be called up regardless of his recent hot stretch. It's better for him to play out the season in AAA and come back next year then come up struggle and be a wreck all offseason. His 1b play has been rough. He's not hitting well against the top tier pitching in AAA. Hitting some bombs against a few AAA scrubs may help his confidence, but doesn't show that he's MLB ready.
  7. Not if they are only going for launch angle/EV/barrel and making every hitter come out of the same factory.
  8. Toro is a bad option, but I agree that Campbell (good box score numbers, not great underlying metrics in AAA) and Garcia (0 Innings played at 1b) aren't guaranteed to be improvements. Sox needed either 1b or 2b help and didn't get it. I don't think they were ever going to seriously give Jordan a chance so it's hard to second guess the Matz trade.
  9. We know it because he has a higher caught looking third strike % than Toro.
  10. I don't believe Matz has big splits. He's a very competent reliever and is an upgrade over the other guys we had.
  11. Sanchez is gone if Narvaez is ready for regular duty.
  12. He's at his career high in IP right now. He's going to have to work through it.
  13. 4th in RP fWAR 5th in RP ERA 3rd in RP HR/FB, HR/9 Not sure what you're holding your breath for. Overall, they've been pretty good in comparison to the rest of the league.
  14. I'm not big on Naylor, but wouldn't have been too upset if those or similar were the trade that they had to do to get him. Anyone lower than Valera would have been on the table for me in a Naylor trade TBH.
  15. Whether it was Burdi or Kelly, it didn't really matter. Neither of those guys have the ceiling that Moran showed when he was healthy in MINN.
  16. Is there another you'd prefer? Toro's lower k numbers in AAA this season than Campbell's?
  17. Glad he learned the all important lesson "make moves in the offseason too."
  18. Moran was a decent bullpen arm before getting injured.
  19. Toro has a 527 OPS since 6/13. They could trade for a guy through the waiver process and get someone better through Aug 31. Probably won't though. I'm not sold that a AAA guy who previously struggled in MLB offensively and defensively (451 OPS in 39 G from 4/30 - 6/18) is the key to turning 1b around. He was near the league lead in errors at the time of demotion (all at 2b) and was ranked as the worst defensive player in MLB by advanced metrics specifically for his IF play.
  20. Top 10 in hitting (per wRC+) #1 in Baserunning (per BsR) Top 10 defense (OAA/DRS/errors) Well coached fundamental team is helping their mediocre pitching beat expected results (30th in E-F, aka their ERA good and FIP bad).
  21. Should they vs could they is two different arguments. I was just here for "could."
  22. They needed to acquire somebody.
  23. Make good deals at the trade deadline and you can get hot? What a surprise!
  24. I don't want Toro on the roster and have said so many times. I also don't want Campbell on the roster because I want him working on his defense and really spending time learning what makes his hitting work while in AAA. They can't rush him back to MLB. I'd rather keep him down until '26.
