  1. http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2016/07/andrew_benintendi_boston_red_s_7.html#incart_river_index Benintendi is now batting .289 with a .348 on-base percentage, .512 slugging percentage, .860 OPS, six homers, three triples, 13 doubles and 28 RBIs in 44 games for Portland. Reminder: Betts was batting 355/443/551 while in AA. Benintendi's OPS is still well behind where Betts' was.
  2. http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2016/07/boston_red_sox_trade_rumors_da_5.html#incart_river_index Some nice Dombrowski quotes in this one. "We're looking for any way to make ourselves better," Dombrowski said. "And I don't mean to say by any means you don't continue to try to look to get better with talent perspective also, which we will continue to try to do." Dombrowski was asked if the Red Sox are capable of putting together a playoff caliber pitching staff with just internal fixes. "We'll see," Dombrowski said. "I'm not sure if I'm ready to answer that question. We'll see what happens. I thought a couple guys would perform better than they have. They haven't so far. You never give up hope. You keep working on them. I think there's still some capabilities there but we haven't done it so far collectively. I mean, I'm not telling you any secrets: Our fourth and fifth starters' earned run average is over 7.00 collectively. Well, that's not good enough to win if that continues. "So now, can it come from within? Yes. Can it come from outside? Yes. Can it come from a combination? Yes."
  3. I have perfectly reasonable opinions about Marty Barrett and Jody Reed.
  4. I never mentioned them being tied.
  5. Your post was ridiculous. The Sox would have most likely lost 3-2 if Kimbrel pitched lights out. Kimbrel didn't lose the game as you originally suggested since he didn't come in with a lead. The offense had several chances to win the game and they failed to do so. Kimbrel had no chance to win the game.
  6. Well isn't that just a pleasant kick to the teeth?
  7. I'd make room for him. What's the worst that could happen? They lose Sean Coyle or Williams Jerez? Not sure why those two are even on the 40 man roster. Yuck.
  8. I would never infer such an outrageous position like that.
  9. Then there is no proof of anything. I myself am not a nihilist.
  10. The big problem right now is that they are tanking while playing at home. They need to be winning these series. Don't fall behind now and then find yourself on a long road trip. That is a recipe for disaster. Honestly, if they can't win at home now, you can probably stick a fork in their chances at any sort of playoff run. Blah... They are still an 86 win team to me.
  11. Also, the blame laid on Farrell is pretty mild. Which post is out of line? Their reasoning was "Kimbrel has sucked in non-save situations, maybe he can't pitch in non-save situations so stop throwing him out there." To me, that's more of a criticism on Kimbrel than Farrell.
  12. I haven't blamed Farrell for this loss. I've blamed the offense.
  13. I'd rather the Sox have scored prior to the 9th inning with all those runners in scoring position.
  14. Saying the plan was a good one doesn't make it so. You can't rely on guys who rarely make it through a full season. You can't rely on AAA guys who haven't had success in MLB.
  15. They just simply preferred Miley then?
  16. There is no proof of that.
  17. Oh, some random writer on Fangraphs is the end all be all of talent evaluation now? That's precious. Benintendi took about a month to right the ship in AA. How long do you think it'll take him to adjust to the majors?
  18. Because trades like that are basically fanfiction.
  19. Sox were down 3-2 when Kimbrel came in. The Sox never scored another run. He didn't lose the game.
  20. Closers should be able to pitch in non-save situations. However, they generally can't. Kimbrel didn't lose this game. The offense scuffled its feet for two long while Price kept them in it.
  21. I too like to not participate in Gamethreads and comment on posts the following day.
  22. How does that trade help us? Trading garbage for garbage is a waste of time.
