  1. This may be going too far down the wormhole here, but my issue is that historically on Talksox too many injuries have been described as "freakish." Sometimes older guys are more likely to get injured? Maybe guys like Ellsbury are more likely to get injured which makes his injury history less "freakish?"
  2. If you truly believe that no one was worried about his overuse before, you'd be very mistaken.
  3. So BEFORE he developed his new pitch? I guess the Padres were the only ones with a working crystal ball.
  4. I'd wait to hear what Jacko says about it before accepting this diagnosis. Is any injury to an overused 41 year old really a "freak injury?"
  5. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ervin-santana Apparently there are multiple teams looking at him. All we are saying is that he's better than Buchholz. If Buchholz is as good as a 200 IP 4.00 ERA guy, why isn't he in the rotation?
  6. So people that saw him breaking down ahead of time and pointed out the Koji was being overworked were wrong and there was nothing to be concerned about even though he suffered an in game injury? Got it.
  7. Damn... Farrell needs to manage that cereal intake better. #neverfarrell
  8. Why not? The spot was open in the first few weeks. It was Pomeranz who requested the opportunity to start. If he had shown the ability to start in spring training, Dombrowski/Farrell have shown the willingness to give new guys a chance.
  9. Back when he was only a 2 pitch pitcher, which he isn't now.
  10. http://www.twincities.com/2016/07/18/how-close-are-the-twins-that-is-the-question/ Relevant quotes: Perhaps the Twins would be more willing to take on a bad contract of lesser value in order to make a Santana or Nolasco trade more palatable, but it appears potential trade partners will expect some sort of offset for pitchers with roughly $34 million and $18 million left on their respective deals. “They have no shot of moving Nolasco or Santana for any type of legit prospect without eating some money,” said a major league scout for a National League contender. “Santana isn’t that far overpriced if he were a free agent, but I don’t see any club moving a legit prospect for him plus paying him market value.” I don't see them doing a Buchholz for Santana deal. It makes no sense for the Twins unless they were given a few prospects as well.
  11. From MLBTR: The Twins have engaged in talks with the Red Sox, with Boston keeping an eye on righty Ervin Santana, according to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press. But the teams do not appear to be lining up at the moment. Meanwhile, Minnesota still needs to decide if it wants to keep useful veterans around its talented but not fully realized core, and Berardino wonders whether it will end up making sense to part with the final two years of Santana’s deal now that he’s pitching fairly well. One factor in the Twins’ decision making will obviously be related to the financial ramifications of any deals, but now-acting GM Rob Antony says that there isn’t a mandate to trim payroll. As Berardino tweets, Antony says that the organization doesn’t “have financial problems” in need of resolution at the deadline. Twins should also hold out for the best deal possible.
  12. http://espn.go.com/blog/mlb/rumors/post/_/id/25790/mlb-rumor-central-asking-price-for-ervin-santana I believe this is where all this chatter came from. We can thank that buffoon Cafardo... The Minnesota Twins hope to land a highly regarded prospect in any deal for Ervin Santana, but would take less if a team is willing to take on the remainder of the right-hander’s $28 million salary after next season, reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. He then goes on to say that it'll probably be the Royals or Orioles.
  13. No, I get it. There are some serious concerns with Pomeranz. I just don't believe this was an overpay. It seems like there aren't any pitchers available that don't have any concerns. It all goes back to the point that it's easier to find pitching in the offseason and they should have grabbed another guy then.
  14. So the movement caused from him pitching didn't cause this injury and it is completely unrelated to him being in the game?
  15. He's been a reliable reliever for the most part since 6/1/15. That's more than we can say for most guys we've thrown out there.
  16. This as good of a theory as any. Send an assassin my way if I start to talk about Red Sox themed caskets though...
  17. I was only concerned because I saw Guerra ahead of Groome and couldn't wrap my head around it for a minute.
  18. I'd pay extra for the Twins to pick up his 2017 option so that he's not on our roster next year either.
  19. No no no. If he pitches like 2016 Price, it'll be ok for Pomeranz. However if Price pitches like 2016 Price, it'll be completely sucky and unacceptable.
  20. What was it like when we disagreed with A700 on everything and when exactly did we get dropped in this alternate dimension?
  21. He's a different pitcher than he was 7 months ago.
  22. I don't knock the 2013 workload. I'm just saying that all those miles have added up and his arm needs to be managed better.
  23. I'd do it with Kimbrel, just not with Koji. Age is a factor here.
  24. So if every trade for a SP is an "overpay," maybe none of them are overpays? Maybe that's closer to market rate?
  25. Well, the A's made a few offers and apparently they were bad enough that Dombrowski hung up the phone and looked elsewhere. Now, if a comparable starter gets dealt at the deadline for a cheaper option than Espinoza, Dombrowski will have egg on his face. Right now, it looks like he paid market price for a starter.
