  1. Ok, and he was a 22 year old that OPS'd 825 in AA and a 23 year old that OPS'd 850 in AAA. Seems kinda good for a backup catcher! If you think of offensive first back up catchers we have had in the past, Doug Mirabelli didn't OPS above 750 until he was 25. Nobody is saying he's a future star, just that he could be a valuable bench piece (especially with the value of pitch framing going away once the robot overlords take over).
  2. Don't make 9 year old MVP tear up again...
  3. That's the only thing I think needs to be fixed in regards to umpiring. I'd then get rid of instant replay.
  4. The question was why do I prefer Jimy over Morgan. I answered. Those Morgan teams all ended with a thud. Jimy at least gave us some good fall memories.
  5. None of that changes my mind.

  7. @redsoxstats Gammons on MLBN: Talked to AC, he's really excited. Wanted back. His kids wanted to back. Daughter going to school in Boston. Bloom took a lot of time sorting this all out. Phone blowing up with happy players. MLB told Gammons Cora was most honest about Houston. Credit Bloom. Goes on to say the Sox have money to spend, will be building up, but don't expect them to sign one of the qualifying offered players (Bauer, Springer, Gausman, Realmuto).
  8. The biggest job is to get the calls right. The way balls and strikes are called now are indefensible. Umps make wild guesses on the outside corner because of the change in equipment over the years. My guess is that people would want to be an umpire because they love the game and are unable to get on the field otherwise. To use your argument, why would umps ever agree to instant replay if it right away shows that one of the guys on the field is a dumbass?
  9. Philly doesn't seem like a well run organization.
  10. Yorke could be really good, I'm not sold on Lugo. I don't think the future SS exists in the org right now.
  11. Morgan in the postseason: 0-8 Jimy in the postseason: 5-9 Jimy gets the nod. Morgan's squad had numerous HOF players (Clemens, Boggs, Rice, Evans) to lean on. Jimy had only Pedro.
  12. @joonlee this is a truly legendary news dump
  13. That may be underselling the issues this roster has.
  14. Nobody says it does.
  15. Tito>Cora>Jimy>Morgan Magic
  16. @JonHeyman Breaking: Alex Cora is back as Red Sox manager
  17. Sarcasm worked great on that cursed thread we had that the mods had to close.
  18. By "punt" I mean "just grab a guy on a one year deal (unless it's JBJ)." When they are behind in August, just trade them away again.
  19. They have nothing over the hollow moon people.
  20. Grullon 2018: 825 OPS Grullon 2019: 850 OPS (close to Tatis's crushing 869, no?) The dude can hit. He's only 24.
  21. I think comparing Duran to Tatis at all isn't fair to him. Tatis is a future MVP winner. Duran is a future MLB regular. There is a huge talent gap there.
  22. Not yet. I think recent experience should be weighted more. it's not hard to do. They just haven't gotten around to it yet. I think there are better ways to quantify expectations than what we have now.
  23. That actually sounds fine with me considering the amount of positive COVID tests this country now has. Is this a conversation that you think will be healthy for the board, moon?
  24. Per what happened with Kevin Cash, the exact opposite would happen. There would be no discussion because the computer would take the decision out of your hands. It would speed the game up.
