The last thing I want to do is argue about Martin Freakin' Perez. He was brought in to be a perfectly serviceable 4/5. How that makes him untouchable in a trade is beyond me though. A 29 year old who never has been a 3 WAR player. I mean, he's quite the low risk/low reward guy. If you can manage him for 4 - 5 innings every 5 days, fine. It's not great. He's not an innings eater. Isn't his highest pitch total this season like 84? He's not a workhorse.
That 4.54 FIP and 5.56 xFIP leads me to believe that there is some REGRESSION (not positive regression either) to come. I mean a .224 BABIP? That's 60 freakin' points better than he's ever seen before. Doesn't seem sustainable to me! BB% is at an all time high, but his WHIP is at an all time low. Are we to believe that the Red Sox have some sort of magical defense that is keeping his WHIP so low? That Kevin Pillah is somehow making that ERA look so good that we can no longer move him unless we completely fleece the other team in a deal?!?!? Really? Really!?!?!? His barrel percentage is the highest of his career! Does Martin Perez imbue these balls with magnetism for Red Sox gloves? Do we honestly think that a joker like no nothing Ron Roenicke is managing Martin Perez so well that he can outperform his peripherals? A pitcher with a decreased GB rate, an increased FB rate with an unsustainable HR/FB % sounds like a guy you are going to hitch up your carriage to? This is no clydesdale? This isn't even a show pony! This is some busted old ass hobby horse that has been scribbled on by generations and generations of ne'er-do-wells. His left on base % is higher than it has been in 7 years! His SIERA is 5.5frickin'3! Batters aren't even swinging at his garbage outside of the zone. You want to talk about smoke in mirrors! His o swing % is 24.8%. 75% of the time batters are not enticed to even swing at the slop he's throwing.
