    To me, the only hitters that looked interesting were Bregman and Hoskins as a bench bat (due to his pull air tendencies and small contract). Brez was willing to use a lot of prospect capital to acquire Contreras (great!), Gray (ok!) and others (um). If they really weren't all in on bringing back Bregman, pull the deal to get Marte. He can play 2b for a few years and then transition to 1b when Contreras leaves. If you don't like the Marte deal, go get Paredes and push the deal over the finish line (DD was always able to).

    If the return for Sale wasn't a dog turd, I think it'd be easier to understand that trade. Whatever internal scouting/metrics they had on Grissom was a big time failure. What's really cool is he's now OPS'ing over 800 for LAA. 🤪

    I don't think it's "build through offense" but more "take a balanced approach." They swung it so far towards pitching that they desperately needed the pitching to be both healthy and lights out in order to win games. They really assumed health for all of the starters and dealt away a ton of depth in ultimately meaningless trades (particularly Durbin).

    The bigger problem to start the season was that 3 starters (Durbin, Story and Duran) were among the 10 worst hitters in the game. Story and Duran were expected to be top of the order bats by the organization. Combine that with Roman not performing and it's a recipe for disaster.

    Pitchers get injured climbing into bed these days. Hard to build your team solely around pitching and see success year in and year out simply due to IL stints.

    Mayer's k rate has been nearly cut in half FWIW. Abreu's numbs have gone up, but they did early last season as well.

    Low innings, but they haven't looked great. I think Chapman was just on a crazy run last season. Unsustainable. I think there may be underlying issues with Whitlock. 😬

    I think they believed Devers was replaced by Roman TBH. The two of them only overlapped for a little over a week, I believe. If Roman had a 140 wRC+ like last season, this lineup would look a lot different.

    On Chapman, while he is at an all time high for 1st pitch strikes, he's near an all time low for 0-2 counts. He seems to be not controlling the zone with that second pitch. His strike throwing % is down a bit from last year and batters are putting the ball in play more often. He's also getting barreled really hard. ERA 0.84 xERA 4.82

    Virgil's Root Beer is a ripoff. Not good. Other bad ones: Zevia, Dad's, Abita, Stewart's. Most of the fancy root beers are kinda crap. You're better off just going with A&W, Mug (for floats), Barq's, IBC, etc. When you go for root beer, that's what you're thinking of anyway.

    Whitlock has not been very good this year. His velo is down. He isn't generating many whiffs or chases. This is the worst he's looked strictly as a reliever.

    Their hard hit % has fallen off a cliff early on. Was he bad at his job last year when they were towards the top of the league at hitting the ball hard? Is this just small sample size? Duran is hitting the ball better recently. Others may pick it up sooner than later. Swapping Bregman for Durbin may have been a big mistake if Durbin can't get the ball in the air.
