  1. 2004 wasn't all that long ago. I'm sure most of us could blow up a post about Jose Offerman so be glad we are speaking only of the good times.
  2. No idea. I’m baffled as to what happened.
  3. @alexspeier Kiké Hernández says he’s been looking at video of Orioles Opening Day starter for a couple weeks in anticipation of batting leadoff in Game 1. He said he went to the Home dugout today and was struck by ‘the magic of Fenway’ in a way that he said was different than when he’d been in Boston as a visitor.
  4. @ChrisCotillo Hernández called this "mind-blowing" ... "I don't know how that happened."
  5. @PeteAbe Xander Bogaerts has made 7 consecutive Opening Day starts at shortstop for the #RedSox (2014-20). With one more, he will match Everett Scott (1914-21) for the most consecutive Opening Day starts at shortstop in team history.
  6. https://lawandcrime.com/sports/mlb-umpire-angel-hernandez-strikes-out-in-bias-lawsuit-as-judge-finds-no-foul-in-failure-to-promote-him/ Umpire Angel Hernandez struck out in his lawsuit alleging that his Cuban descent stood made the league pass him over several times for crew chief in favor of his white colleagues. Rattling off performance concerns that made the umpire the bane of ex-New York Yankees manager Joe Torre, a federal judge in the Empire State ruled on Wednesday that no reasonable jury could find racial discrimination at the heart of these snubs. “The court is mindful of the reality of unconscious bias and of the ‘built-in headwinds’ that can ‘freeze out protected groups from job opportunities and advancement,'” District Judge J. Paul Oetken wrote in a 26-page opinion. “With respect to Hernandez’s non-promotion claims in this case, however, there is insufficient evidence to show a triable issue on either a disparate treatment or disparate impact theory.” Widely described as the worst umpire in the game, Hernandez’s reputation was put to the test by Boston University, whose researchers found his colleague Joe West made more bad calls then he did. But Hernadez still had a “high error rate,” roughly “averaging 19 incorrect calls a game, or 2.2 per inning,” according to the university. In 2017, Hernandez sued Major League Baseball in a lawsuit alleging discrimination and a lack of diversity, citing a study from five years earlier finding that only seven-percent of his peers belonged to racial or ethnic minorities. Hernandez complained that the last time he was assigned to the World Series was 2005, four years after then-Yankees manager Torres publicly criticized one of his calls. Torre became the league’s baseball executive in 2011 and chief baseball officer in 2015, keeping the latter position until December 2019. Judge Oetken added that the evidence showed that Torre based his decisions on performance. “The evidence shows beyond genuine dispute that an umpire’s leadership and situation management carried the day in MLB’s promotion decisions,” Oetken wrote. “Torre testified that the candidates he appointed to crew chief instead of Hernandez ‘have not demonstrated the same pattern of issues and to the same extent that have manifested with Hernandez over the years.’ […] And indeed, the promoted umpires have evaluations with comments that lend support to Torre’s statement.”
  7. @BillShaikin Most popular jerseys, based on sales in MLB's online store since end of 2020 World Series: 1. Mookie Betts 2. Cody Bellinger 3. Fernando Tatis Jr. 4. Bryce Harper 5. Clayton Kershaw 6. Aaron Judge 7. Ronald Acuña Jr. 8. Francisco Lindor 9. Kiké Hernández 10. Mike Trout
  8. Marwin LF Verdugo CF Renfroe RF Kiké 2B is my guess
  9. Mojo does not carry over. You can just do it if you want. Id est, non futuis.
  10. Preview of next year's thread: @redsoxstats Rosenthal @TheAthletic: "The list of clubs that potentially will be in the market for a shortstop next offseason figures to be rather lengthy: Start with all of the teams that might lose a free agent... Then add the Red Sox, if they want to move Xander Bogaerts off of short."
  11. Who ever wants to start it up.
  12. Needs to show it in AAA.
  13. That was if Cordero was on IL. They always wanted to go 12/14.
  14. Writing was on the wall with the “two man bench” stuff.
  15. IDK. It was apparently a false positive.
  16. Duran’s defense is much further away than his bat.
  17. Maybe? I agree that it won’t work from what little I’ve seen.
  18. There's a whole other day to get through!!!
  19. It took him long enough to make the move. I think this is just a secondary lineup right now. I think the season will start with Cordero LF, Verdugo CF, Renfroe RF. Kiké probably won't play the majority of this games in the OF unless Downs is a monster in May/June.
  20. They prefer Dalbec at the end of the lineup. Would see more strikes as they won't want to walk him before the top of the lineup comes up.
  21. #15 with a bullet!
  22. Not that these things matter in the least, but NBC has the Sox ranked 20th in their power rankings. 20. Boston Red Sox J.D. Martinez turned his career around several years ago in Detroit by delving deep into film study of his own swing and fully embracing the launch angle revolution, so it probably shouldn’t have come as a surprise that he struggled last year as MLB removed in-game video access amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He posted a combined .317/.392/.593 batting line in his first two years with the Red Sox in 2018-2019 before stumbling to a .213/.291/.389 slash line in 2020.
  23. Finally. I don't think this is the lineup going forward though. This must be for a stadium with a large LF.
  24. @ChrisCotillo Barnes doesn't really have an explanation as to how he was cleared. Says he has taken like 8 tests in the last few days and they've all been negative. One positive from last week (Wed or Thurs). The mystery thickens. How prevalent is a false positive?
  25. @ChrisCotillo Phillips Valdez makes the team. Red Sox announce: * Franchy Cordero activated from COVID-19 list * John Schreiber DFA * Michael Chavis, Colten Brewer optioned to Worcester.
