  1. Well have you? I certainly haven't.
  2. After how long? The difference between AAA and MLB is light years. It would be noticeable to even casual fans.
  3. Chicks do dig the long ball. Lots of them. However, lots of chicks don't dig the long ball and like situational hitting. Bottom line Bye Bye Bye Felicia.
  4. Thad Ward (TJS surgery last season) is currently throwing a bullpen. Will be interesting to see him and Mata this year.
  5. If you replace a great owner with a terrible owner, the fans would notice. However, the overall impact on MLB would be minimal. Some teams would get a better owner than they have now.
  6. Most of these yachts are "owned" by LLC's. By using them as charters for a certain portion of the year, they are able to expense fuel from time to time.
  7. Uncertain tax position? That's what I felt every time I handed in a return to one of the partners at my firm.
  8. We watched Papi fight against the shift for almost his whole career. I didn't have a problem with it then. I don't have a problem with it now.
  9. The shift has been around forever. Players just haven't learned to go the other way. Scoring will go up. Games will be longer.
  10. Some people have stated that the second the CBA is agreed upon, the owners are going to announce a streaming deal with HBO that's going to give them $$$.
  11. You can do better elsewhere, but you can also do far worse. The risk at losing money on an MLB team is next to zero since it hasn't happened yet. MLB teams are just status symbols for these old rich dudes. If you get rid of the 30 owners and replaced them with 30 other owners, I'm not sure anyone would notice the difference. If you replaced the 1200 players on each team's 40 man roster and replaced them with the next 1200 guys, the product would suffer immensely.
  12. This is assuming a full 16 years in the calculation.
  13. It is. Annual return on investment for Schott was about 12%. ((Gain+Investment)/Investment)^(1/years)
  14. The Dow for that specific time period. 1999 was prior to the first dot com bubble bursting.
  15. Owners won't lose money. They'll just earn less this year. They are doing this to reduce operating costs in the future.
  16. She bought controlling interest for 11M in 1984. Sold for 67M in 1999.
  17. Until the value of owning a franchise reverses course, it's an investment that will pay out at some point.
  18. @jcmccaffrey Minor league position players don't need to report until Thursday. Marcelo Mayer got here two weeks ago. He said today he's excited to get his spring underway. Added 12 lbs this offseason too.
  19. He's a liar. https://jordanbean.medium.com/analyzing-mlb-attendance-and-temperature-6cb2b1af2bd4 https://eda.seas.gwu.edu/showcase/2020-Spring/mlb_attendance.html https://towardsdatascience.com/predicting-mlb-game-attendance-c36cdc1b8de6
  20. It would be nice if we could actually talk about baseball rather than the owners vs players drama. Maybe someday...
  21. No. July is typically MLB's best attendance month. Summer vacation. Good weather. Maybe tv viewership is a little higher in April?
  22. No. July is typically MLB's best attendance month. Summer vacation. Good weather.
  23. @jcmccaffrey Alex Cora is here at minor league camp. Said he’s been impressed with the shape Mayer and Yorke are in. Has been keeping an eye on lefty Chris Murphy. Interesting note about Murphy in that he has an ok chance to see MLB games this year.
  24. No, it's the same thing exact thing as the entertainment industry. More than 2/3's of players to appear in MLB make minimum or less.
