  1. @jcmccaffrey Bloom said they took Whitlock in the Rule 5 draft with the expectation he’d be a starter. Talked to Dave Bush yesterday about the process of starting to stretch out Whitlock. He’s hoping to get him to 3-4 innings by end of spring.
  2. Ok. Additional year of control is nice. Dalbec has a replacement in the system. Downs hasn't even succeeded in AAA yet.
  3. I'm fine with it. I'd do the deal and then extend Manea.
  4. I think they'll add 2 more relievers. My preference would be for them to sign Suzuki. If they only grab McCutchen, it'd be a bit of a letdown.
  5. We'll see. I think they'll slot guys based on performance, not based on price tag.
  6. I think Hill will most likely be out for an extended period. Pivetta was decent for a back of the rotation guy. I think Wacha is trash. An injury to Eovaldi or diminished stuff from Sale would doom this season.
  7. @alexspeier While Chaim Bloom says the Red Sox are looking for a RH bat, he says that does "not necessarily" rule out a pursuit of Kyle Schwarber. He suggests the roster is flexible enough that the team doesn't need to limit itself in terms of where it looks to add talent. I guess maybe if it's Schwarber AND a RHB.
  8. @redsoxstats Dave Bush tells @jcmccaffrey that the Sox are open to spreading out the high leverage relief innings over multiple guys, playing match-ups, and being open-minded about who's pitching at the end of games. Thinks it'll be a benefit in the long run. Might have to have some sort of committee for people that could close?
  9. Once we get into the season, I think you'll change your tune. @redsoxstats Pretty crazy that Gallo, Lowe, and Kiermaier the only regular LHHs on NYY-TOR-TB
  10. The rotation is currently: Eovaldi Sale Hill Pivetta Wacha/Houck/Whitlock The rotation seems good enough to compete on paper and barring injury. Will Sale regain his form somewhat or look how he did in 2021, which wasn't necessarily great? Who becomes the 5th starter? Can they expect anything from Paxton in the 2nd half? Should they just put Paxton in the pen for this year?
  11. @redsoxstats Bloom says Paxton on track for the second half of the season. Vague timetables on Mata and Ward returning are sooner than Paxton. No calendars mapped out for them yet.
  12. Management to me is Henry, Bloom, Kennedy and anyone else at the C level.
  13. You think Houck and Whitlock will both be in the pen? I've heard that they are trying to stretch Whitlock out.
  14. Maybe management no longer believes the need to "go for it?"
  15. 2023 FA: DeGrom Nola Rodon Syndergaard Manea Bassitt A. Chapman Merrifield Abreu Muncy T. Turner Swanson Arenado J. Turner Jose Ramirez Blackmon Myers Judge Haniger Margot Kiermaier Benintendi Gallo Mancini
  16. Need to reset the cap that year too! We'll be all in for 2024!
  17. They just wanted to get rid of Sanchez. Urshela wasn't great last year. Donaldson definitely fills a need as long as he can stay healthy.
  18. Looking forward to fire FATSO posts in the future.
  19. JBJ also has a long history of tweaking his swing.
  20. I agree. He'll bounce back, but I'm not sure how big the bounce will be. Maybe 85 WRC+?
  21. I love fanfiction.
  22. They said last year wasn't the time to win it all and they made the ALCS. Maybe they should just try to win it all more often and get them over the hump? It'll be interesting to see what moon's answer is though.
  23. I think he was hurt last year. I was listing his career stats. Last year was not good, that's for sure.
  24. Yes. I like the argument that a strong farm system will keep a team competitive, but we have relatively recent history that shows that it's not always the case.
