    @SoxProspects Pedro Castellanos went 3-for-4 with two doubles (4) in yesterday's 4-1 Cardenales de Lara loss. The 23-year-old slugger has been on a roll since the start of the Venezuelan Winter League slashing .288/.315/.558 with four home runs over 54 PA. This is a guy who showed lots of BP power, but never really found it in game. 15 HR in 321 games from 2016-2019. He had a career high 13 this year at Portland. The only problem is that he also had a career low in doubles. He's 6'3" and not athletic. Future 1B/DH who was pushed to the OF in 2021 because the doesn't have an organizational path forward at 1B. Current 49th ranked prospect who peaked at #16 prior to 2018 season.

    I don't see Verdugo as a cornerstone. He's much more of a complimentary player. He showed a big spark in 2020, but 2021 was underwhelming IMO.

    A lot of things I've read point towards his comfort level with Miggy and that the two of them are really close.

    Maybe they just want to pay one guy a little more than ERod? I'd rather Stroman instead of ERod even if I'm paying more.

    Yes, my original assertion that it was pick 57 was wrong. It's the pick after Competitive Balance Round B, so pick 70.

    It's not that I "know" my stuff. I just pulled up the CBA and the MLB rule book to see what it said. A lot of the stuff I've seen written in articles is fairly vague and doesn't get into the nuts and bolts about why things are happening. This is because sports journalists are lazy.

    From the CBA: "if a club's second highest selection is a selection exempt from forfeiture, the Club shall forfeit its next highest available selection." No matter what, pick 41 is exempt.

    They drafted Fabian #40 last year. Based on the MLB’s rules, Boston will receive a compensatory draft pick next year.     So if you thought that word was appropriate for what would happen, but it didn't happen the way you expected: maybe there was no cliff? Maybe it was just a reset and the cliff never happened?

    Even if he's ready on 4/1, we wouldn't see him in Boston this season unless they fast tracked him to the pen.

    You're right. My perception is that if he was getting 5 years, that he'd be closer to 88M. Seems like a fair value.

    As long as he isn't going to recreate the 2020 starting rotation, I'm fine with it.

    I like the idea of it just being a "reset." It's like I'm playing a video game and haven't saved for an hour, but made some dumb mistake and it would be better to just hit reset and start over from where I was an hour ago at my last save rather than just continuing on.
