    It depends on how well they can spend that savings. Clubs like Tampa are able to do a lot with just a little. Sox should have the flexibility to go over for special players but be mindful of overspending for the sake of overspending.

    The only good thing about putting Matz in the rotation would be the cost savings. He's just not very reliable though and has a very low ceiling. His numbers were similar to ERod last year, but he's just not a guy you can pencil in every 5th day.

    If Vaz didn't get the option picked up, they could've grabbed him. Oh well.

    He's a FB/SL guy who can throw some junk against LHP. His FB gets a little bit of movement, but has a wOBA above 400 and a run value 16 in 2021. I don't think his stuff plays up very much. IMO, he's an expensive 3. Rockies offered him 3/40 and he didn't take it. My guess is he's gonna get something in the 14-15AAV range.

    My only guess is that they saw the opportunity cost of not being able to negotiate an extension in Sept/Oct was greater than the returns they were being offered. Maybe they really thought he'd sign an extension before FA hit? IDK. They did extend Cron prior to FA.

    If the Sox truly believed that they both could be effective long term starters, they both would be put into the rotation. I think one of the stays in the pen just because their peak value is not in the rotation.

    Why did the Rockies hold onto Jon Gray at the deadline, but not give him a QO after? What a waste.

    Dodgers could get two picks, but will likely sign a QO guy. Maybe Taylor?

    It wouldn't be a one for one trade. It could be something like Castillo and Moustakas (plus eating some salary) for Casas.

    I've seen the play was probably to replace ERod with Matz if ERod didn't sign. He should be much cheaper than the QO.
