  1. Interesting listen to the latest SoxProspects podcast. The guest was Brian Abraham, Director of Player Development. He noted that it was the minor league guys who make the call on when to move guys level to level. Brian would have the conversation with Chaim, but ultimately it is just to keep Chaim informed. Also, he stated that there is no real specific amount of at bats a hitter needs or appearances a pitcher needs at a certain level before a player advances. If a player needs to work on something and they are no longer being challenged at a level, they move the player up. An example he used was if a pitcher had a good fastball/slider combo, but needed to work on his changeup. At a lower level, he may be inclined to just stick with the FB/SL and may be less likely to work the changeup into the mix. With more advanced hitters, he'd be forced to add the 3rd pitch, so they'd move the guy up to face more advanced hitters. He said they are working with Rafaela on using his aggression on pitches in the zone, rather than just swinging at everything, noting his low walk rate. They are very happy with Bello's progression, being a late signee at 18 and how it's great for all of the international signees. It shows that if you put the work in that you can make it. Casas won't be brought up just to fill a hole, but only will be brought up when he's ready. Mayer is a 5 tool player, a great kid, a good listener and someone you don't want to miss an at bat of. Blaze doesn't get enough credit for his patience and pitch recognition, he's not a free swinging home run derby guy.
  2. Why would they demote Kavadas to Salem?
  3. @ChrisCotillo Kevin Plawecki is back with the team.
  4. They may trade Snell, but I don't think your proposed M's deal would get it done.
  5. @SoxProspects Michael Gettys started his conversion from outfielder to relief pitcher last season. After a scoreless inning in today's 9-4 Greenville Drive win, he has a 3.34 ERA over 29.2 IP with 23 strikeouts to seven walks. He hasn't given up an earned run since June 12 (10.2 IP).
  6. Who said he's "fragile?" He was coming off an injury. I'm not sure if him being put into the rotation caused this injury. Maybe not having a set plan for him from Spring Training on and splitting his time between relieving and starting had an impact? I thought I heard somewhere that the injury was in part due to how he was working out between starts? I still believe his best role is as starter.
  7. No. If you combine all his numbers since 2016, he's not a 1 fWAR player.
  8. Pedro Martinez.
  9. My vote for first half manager of the year would go to Charlie Montoyo.
  10. jacko isn't really an irony bro. That's not what he's built his posting career on.
  11. They are completely different pitchers. Diekman's issues are the neverending walks. If he stopped walking guys, he could be a closer. Diekman's Statcast is lit up red like a Christmas tree except for BB% (bottom 1%), xOBP (bottom 3%). His EV is bottom 23, but it is offset by a Brl rate of top 81. I can see why Bloom took a chance on Diekman for at least one year when you look at the metrics.
  12. Valdez and Sawamura? I don't seem them dumping Dreckman until next season.
  13. Per Statcast: Exit Velocity: Bottom 5% Hard Hit %: Bottom 5% BB%: Top 5% He's not walking a lot of guys, but guys are really squaring him up. He was "good" in June, but that may be more due to BABIP luck than anything else.
  14. I'd prefer keeping him at 2b, but it depends on what the plan would be for SS.
  15. He is the 4th Chris Murphy listed on Baseball Reference. None of the others had an MLB appearance. I read through his twitter timeline and I can confirm that he gets the MVP seal of approval for being a cool dude.
  16. It's like the bizzaro Red Sox system right now.
  17. If Snell is available, I'd like the Sox to make an offer better than the M's offer.
  18. I wouldn't do Murphy for Bell.
  19. Is Chris Murphy the most under the radar top 10 prospect in recent memory? Starting pitching profile (now that he can get RHB out) that produces low SLG and an xERA below 2 at AA/AAA.
  20. Rays broadcast jinxed Brasier into that walk.
  21. I think it's hard to really pinpoint these guys down to an exact slot. I think there's a general range where a guy fits in. Hickey feels adequately placed when surrounded by Binelas, Wong (who is making the case for being the BOS backup in 2023) and Ward. Kavadas seems to fit in with Drohan, German and Bonaci. With Hickey, I think there are still questions about his glove and if he can stick at Catcher. With Kavadas, he seems to really be a DH only profile which is why he's 29th rather than knocking on the top 20 door. Because Seabold has good control, he can dominate AAA. The problem is, his stuff isn't good enough for the next level. Until I see it work there, I'm not sure I can believe in it. Think of Denyi Reyes in 2017-2018. He breezed through the low minors because of his control with ERAs in the 1's and low 2's. https://www.milb.com/player/denyi-reyes-660593 He eventually hit the wall where his stuff couldn't play up anymore. He has been getting smacked around in AAA this year in BAL, but has made some brief appearances for their MLB team (even starting in Fenway on 5/28).
  22. No, it's not Franchy's fault. Bloom needs to find a 1b that can be better than Dalbec is in 2022.
  23. Snell's statcast line isn't all that bad. His FIP of 3.56 is solid as well, much better than the 4.66 FIP. His last two starts: @LAD 5 IP 12 K, 1 ER SF 6 IP, 11 K, 1 ER I think the Pad's would be dumb to give up on him if they want to stay competitive. They have 6 starters, but Gore has never thrown 100 innings in a season professionally. If they are moving Snell, they better be getting something really good back.
  24. Yeah, about 10 years from now.
