  1. The worst player isn't the same as the worst contract.
  2. If he waits until the deadline, will there be enough time in the season to get the number down? Also, with the new CBA, is the luxury tax the handcuff it used to be?
  3. So far for JBJ: 0 for 9, 1 BB, 1 K Not getting hits isn't ideal, but I can't complain about the 10% k rate. He's not looking completely lost out there.
  4. Grebeck definitely is in the discussion.
  5. Seems like a better fit in RF.
  6. Suzuki's OPS is 1145 higher than JBJ's.
  7. I agree on this one for sure. Seemed like a good fit?
  8. JBJ is Poochie?
  9. 2022: The Cliff Clavin of Cliffs, or One Cliff to Rule Them All
  10. @IanMBrowne Jake Diekman is kind of intense! Do you want to be the closer? “I don’t really give two shits.” Can I quote you on that? “Yeah, do it, I don’t really care.” I'm into it. I like that vibe.
  11. If Hamilton somehow develops some pop, that's a fringe major leaguer right now. He was known for his speed and his fielding with a lagging bat. If that bat catches up, it could get interesting.
  12. Actually, 2020 was just the mini cliff. The real cliff is 2022!
  13. A very bad business plan. It worked for the Astros, but doesn't have a long history of being a great policy.
  14. Just that damn crack Red Sox medical staff!
  15. Houck's outing could have been worse: @_dadler Joey Gallo had this lineout last night with a 112.5 mph exit velocity and a 22° launch angle. Since Statcast started tracking, there have been 132 balls hit between 112-113 mph and 21-23°. 121 of the other 131 were home runs. Gallo's is the first one ever to be an out.
  16. David Hamilton's line this year is crazy. 1.915 OPS, 2 HR, 4 SB, 3 BB, 2 K
  17. https://twitter.com/redsoxstats/status/1513256577066840066 Joe Davis enjoying his bobblehead day.
  18. So the plan since Dec 2019 was to just wait for 4 more years and just float?
  19. They are for this season. They reset in 2020 and didn't go over in 2021. It feels like they could have taken on more this offseason.
  20. There were several impressive performances on the day, with five shutout innings from Brandon Walter leading the way. A 26th-round pick in the 2019 draft, Walter has had a meteoric rise from outside the top 60 into the top 10 in just one year. The 2021 SoxProspects.com Pitcher of the Year is off to another great start in 2022 as his stock continues to trend up. It's going to be interesting watching this Portland pitching squad this year.
  21. Better to have a delay during the week than after they've finalized the stats at the end of the week.
  22. You keep saying that, but we were told over and over that they expected to compete in 2021. At first, we were told "just let them reset and we'll be back to spending." Well, that's hasn't really happened yet and they stayed under the tax limit for 2 straight years. Why kick the spending can further down the street to 23 or 24?
  23. It's really hard to know what Barnes' deal is. The only thing anyone can truly say is that he's not as dependable as you'd like him to be. He's not been great since signing the extension, but I'm not sure that's the reason.
  24. If you look at the percentile rankings on Statcast, there's a lot of red. The only knock against him has been his bb rate. If he could reign in the walk rate, he could be a really great asset. Unfortunately, if you look at his annual stats, they are always less than desirable because of all those walks. It's the same reason that they sent DHern down. If you're walking the park, it doesn't matter how many k's you get. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/jake-diekman-518617?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb
  25. Since 2016, he's been with Oakland, KC, Texas and Arizona, which are all teams nobody cares enough about to follow.
