  1. That Sale contract is killing the Sox. Is it going to be a 4th lost season for him?
  2. They need at least one SP. They could use a CP. If they don't come away with SS/OFer, they'll need to really explain what the short term plan is. I don't really care about C/DH at the moment. Seems much lower priority to me?
  3. Interesting note on the detailed 60-31 SP list: 41. Johnfrank Salazar Preseason Rank: Unranked 2022 Stats: 51 games, 205 PA, .297/.386/.394, 11 2B, 22 BB, 26 K @ FCL and Salem -“El Capitan” has endeared himself to teammates and coaches with his leadership and strong play. He impressed at the plate in 2022, particularly in the FCL where he hit .327 while walking nearly twice as often as he struck out. The team was going to give him a look at catcher at the canceled 2022 Fall Performance Program.
  4. Also, the Astros were able to sign Abreu because they are letting Verlander walk. They had 7 legitimate starters at one point and a lot of them a very cheap. When you can build from the farm, you can overpay for a guy or two and not worry about it. The Sox don't have that luxury in 2023.
  5. I'm not going to freak out about their first move. I'm going to wait and see what it looks like when camp opens. I just don't want to hear "we have to be better" at any point next season.
  6. There's always at least one team that gets overhyped due to "winning" the offseason.
  7. Last year's offseason was condensed into like a 36 hours signing period of insanity. He gets a pass for the timing of the moves. Bloom was actually fairly active last season: Paxton Hill Wacha Diekman Strahm Story Refsnyder The actual moves themselves can be called into question for sure.
  8. Letting their current players go to FA is an ownership decision. Lester Ellsbury Betts Bogaerts etc.
  9. Yes. However, the Sox need to show a little more aggressiveness than they have the past few offseasons. The fear is that their current inaction will lead them to not sign a real SS, corner OFer or impact pitcher (either closer or SP).
  10. Acquiring enough starters to fill 162 games rather than a 5 man rotation.
  11. Unfair to call them his minions since they came before him and will be here after he's gone. More likely he's just paralyzed by indecision.
  12. There were a lot of people fretting elsewhere that "Red Sox target signs with Astros." I don't remember him being a target at all??? He just isn't a fit for all the reasons you've stated. And yes, playing the musical chairs game with the pitching staff will not make for a good season in 2023. It's Bloom's bed, he'll have to lie in it. If he has another mediocre offseason and they struggle, he needs to go.
  13. It's Ronaldo Hernandez. Max hit 181 in Salem with no power. Even if he took a walk, that means very little at that level. His OPS was still only 618. 10 SB's in 50 games in A+ isn't a big deal. His overinflated 51 SB's over 64 games in A can be ignored. Bazardo isn't even in the org anymore.
  14. Unrelated. The pitcher was signed in 18. Freili was signed earlier this season.
  15. None of the above.
  16. Could be either.
  17. If the Sox did that deal, I'd be worried.
  18. On 12/1/19, Bloom had JD, Mookie, Xander, Beni, ERod, JBJ, Vazquez, Moreland, Chavis, Price, Workman, Hembree and Eovaldi. Those guys are all gone now and the only real MLB contributors they have as of today are Verdugo and Nick Pivetta. I think it's fair to expect more than that with such a talent drain.
  19. He played well in the AFL. He deserves another year before I worry about him. Development is not linear.
  20. FWIW, SoxProspects doesn't believe Hamilton or Abreu will appear for BOS in 2023. If Hamilton can gain some usefulness in the OF, maybe he can get a cup of coffee even with his dumb flyball rate. Hamilton at least has the speed. Abreu k's too much for his mediocre power. He'll walk a lot, but has too much swing and miss. His SLG went way down after being traded.
  21. As it should. Kershaw is not a lock to re-sign.
  22. Yorke was top 100 prior to 2022, right?
  23. Reporters never really know at this point anyway.
  24. I know he has the shoulder injury from COL that pushed him to 2B. I think the wrist/heal stuff from last year was most likely just fluky. Will his performance improve? Remains to be seen.
