  1. They have a world-class CFer. Let Duran be pedestrian in LF.
  2. Better defender, not worth the contract.
  3. Less about fans and media and more about just missing out on Bregman.
  4. The team leader can't be a guy who craps all over himself whenever he pops up.
  5. How many DHs can they fit on this 40 man?
  6. 1. Lose two more picks and more INTL $? 2. Bad defender? 3. His -0.3 bWAR in 2024? 4. 12th percentile bat speed?
  7. I think they are both professional TBH. They just have different skillsets.
  8. Bloom grew the farm through the draft and signed a bunch of low end 40 man guys. He would just churn the bottom of the roster. He'd make a big signing here and there (Story/Masa), but he wasn't as active as Breslow. Breslow completely revamped the whole pitching development and it looks entirely different than what it did at the end of 2023. He's focused on raising the ceiling of the MLB pitching and we saw the team get carried to the playoffs last year because of it. I don't think Bloom was capable of doing that. Would Breslow have been able to add Roman Anthony in the 2nd round like Bloom did? IDK. Both guys struggled at the trade deadline. Breslow has been far better in the offseason. I think Breslow has been a little hamstrung with some of the contracts left over by Bloom, but it wasn't a complete disaster TBH. Breslow is very model driven. Bloom was better at balancing scouting with the models.
  9. So maybe no Paredes, Donovan or Marte then? Wonder who the IF will be?
  10. PHI really wants Bo, I don't think the Sox are really all in on him.
  11. Bregman didn't really want him last year. Maybe he didn't really want him this year?
  12. Being a slash defender means you're probably a mediocre defender at multiple positions.
  13. Bichette has less RBI than Duran over the past 3 years.
  14. Worst 3b DRS since '23: 1. Vientos -20 (now a 1B/DH) 2. Devers -18 (now a DH) 3. Suarez -13 (should be a 1B/DH) Bohm is a -12 too, so I don't want him here either.
  15. You'd trade Bello because the return would be greater than a return for Crawford plus potpourri. Dealing Campbell now could be dealing him at his lowest value. At least let him reclaim some value in AAA this season. Sox are still high on him. The only trade to really free up money would be a Sandoval deal. The others are just swapping assets IMO. Sox have a diminished farm right now, they could add to it with some deals that also give them some salary relief.
  16. I don't know how many people were saying he won't, just that "he hadn't" since 2019. This is the first time he's gone over the 2nd threshold in a long time. He retracted his spending. There were reports from Speier that they wouldn't go over the 2nd threshold, but now they have. You can't be mad at people for listening to Alex Speier, a guy with real, insider knowledge. My guess is that they wanted Bregman, got pie in the face and pivoted to Suarez. Now they need to go out and find a cheaper solution at 2B or 3B. They wouldn't have signed Suarez if they had signed Bregman.
  17. I think he's ultimately more valuable to the Red Sox which is why they haven't traded him. It's more likely that he's still here on 4/1 than elsewhere. It's not a perfect fit for the roster, but it's really a Masa problem not a Duran problem when it comes down to it.
  18. Bichette has had some pretty bad seasons at SS. I'm not sure he necessarily becomes a good defender by transitioning to 2B.
  19. I think the lineup can work itself out over time. I think having positional holes is a bigger problem. Specifically worrying about "who is the #2 hitter" just seems silly at this point. I don't think lineups really need to work that way. Go out and acquire someone that is an average to above fielder at 2b or 3b, preferably a RHB.
  20. I think they can deal Sandoval considering all their offseason acquisitions. I'd do it for a low level DSL prospect as a straight salary dump. I think that's not a "them being cheap" move, but a move to give them flexibility to complete their roster now and at the deadline since they are stuck with Masa and Hicks. I think they would like to deal Duran, but haven't found someone to meet their asking price. BOS is probably better off with Duran or just dealing him for prospects.
  21. I'd smash that button on a Harrison deal for sure. I think the Sox would have to add Sandlin or someone to it, which I'd rather do that a one for one of Tolle/Early.
  22. I'd be surprised if Suarez is trending UP at his age TBH. If Gray wasn't trending down at age 36, it'd be kind of a socker.
  23. Likely there could be multiple deals coming. Sandoval - free up salary Duran - deal for prospects Prospects - acquire 2b
  24. Young, controllable pitcher on a cheap deal who is relatively healthy and puts up decent numbers every year. Some orgs will want that considering what that arm would cost in FA.
