  1. I really hope he turns it on in the second half and has a playoff run for the ages... but until I see it, I'm unfortunately worried he will inevitably puke on himself once the leaves fall, the temperature plummets, and the games matter... I'm a "I'll believe it when I see it" kind of guy, and with Price, we just haven't seen it.
  2. 22-43 is worlds better than 1-7. or 8-45 for his career.
  3. I never said win consistently. 22 wins with 2 or less runs IS pretty amazing and is exactly what he is paid for. But Price hasn't really suffered from a lack of runs, not looking at the season as a whole. The team has scored 97 runs in his 20 starts (including tonight). That's 4.85 runs a game....
  4. It's just the continuing theme. It's the Yankees and it's not being able to hold a lead. A lack of run support also goes with the territory being the #1 starter. You are generally lined-up against the other teams best pitcher, so you need to be able to win a low scoring game. #1 pitchers are paid to dominate and win low-scoring games, not just put up quality starts (QS are great for the middle/back end of the rotation, but a 4.5 ERA is not doing your job at the top...) Just like the top corners in the NFL are paid to shutdown the top receivers. Yep, their job is tougher than the #2 or slot corners facing lesser competition, but that's why they are paid the big bucks... As for his stuff, his command was definitely off and his curve was flat. That is a bit of a concern.
  5. Yep. I'll admit I forgot about the great game against TB, but then he follows it up with this trash. At least the bullpen is rested from the AS break...
  6. Fair enough. But he needs to dominate in the playoffs. His 5+ ERA in October is just... well... What the hell is that... Until he proves it's just bad luck small sample size, he's going to be defined as a good regular season pitcher who can't handle the pressure and good lineups in October. The regular season means jack if you can't win when it matters.
  7. There comes a point when one of the highest paid pitchers in baseball needs to start earning that money and pitching like he was expected to... An Ace should be able to win a 1-0 game against one of the worst offenses in baseball, I mean, at least once maybe?
  8. So why again did we let Lester walk? I'm sorry, I will never let that down for as long as I'm alive. I LOVE Lester. Watched him come up through the minors, was at his MLB debut. Couldn't have done more for this organization. I'll never understand it.
  9. Price has now give up 15 runs in 17.2 innings to a team that is averaging a whopping 4.18 runs a game... wtf.
  10. This team can't afford to lose to crappy teams. Gotta take advantage. And there goes the lead... Price is way off tonight. Edit: I won't lie, I'm still frustrated with Price. It's the middle of July and we are still waiting for that "Ah, now THERE is a $30 million pitcher" performance... I want a dominant start already. Weak sauce.
  11. Why can't Price pitch against this anemic offense?
  12. Balances out his 4-0 start over 6 games with a 6.14 ERA. Law of averages baby! (Ok, not really how it works, but...) Edit: wrong tone! I want law of averages to return his dominance!
  13. The other way you could look at the PH decision: You let Young hit, if he gets on base, 1 out, 2 on, you could let Shaw hit and put in Papi for Vazquez. Sure you run the risk of possibly a DP and not get Papi in the game. On the other hand, you give yourself the opportunity to get 2 hot bats and a solid bat instead of 1 hot bat, 1 solid, and a black hole. You are on the road, don't sell out a multiple runs inning and a stronger string of bats for an at best slightly better chance for the 1 tying run.
  14. Young vs RHP this season: .231 .310 .519 .830 overall in the last 28 days: .342 .419 .763 1.182 Shaw in the last 28 days: .219 .272 .396 .668 and against RHP: .302 .365 .511 .876 Shaw really hasn't been much better against RHP this season outside of BA. You have to go with the hot hand. Shaw's cooled off a lot in the last month where as Young has been on fire...
  15. lol, pathetic. So wtf did the Redsox have to fly across the country for 2 games and fly to Min? Sometimes these inter league series make no sense...
  16. I also get suspicious when it's late in the game. Umps get paid per game, not per hour, right... Sometimes it seems they just want to end the game already....
  17. I'd much rather have Young the way he is hitting than Shaw.
  18. He saw one strike, nothing else was even close, didn't swing the bat, and got called out on strikes. That's not on him. Trying to chase pitches 6+ inches out of the zone just isn't good baseball. 100% on the ump.
  19. Seriously. Hit Papi for Rutledge. Get two hot bats at the plate with one out is way better odds than one and then crap...
  20. Tying run in scoring position now! Let's not make this all for nothing! Walk and a hit, come on!
  21. A playoff berth means nothing if you can't beat a playoff contender. Of course, you also can't expect this offense to score 8+ runs a game. If the pitching staff doesn't turn it around, the team is going to continue to struggle as the offense cools off.
