  1. Is there a stat that adjusts ERA, WHIP, K, BB, etcc based on the hitters faced? ie, giving up 5 runs to the Jays/Orioles is vastly different than giving up 5 runs to SD?
  2. He actually threw more offspeed pitches in '15 than he did in '10. He threw is Change and curve ~ 31.6% in '15 compared to 28.3% in '10. He's thrown slightly fewer change ups while almost doubling the percentage of curveballs from '10 to '15. More confidence in the FB and a better FB back then made his offspeed pitches work better.

Pretty scary downward trend...
  4. I can't make a joke? Regardless, it cost us 2 runs.
  5. That was kinda sad... It must of been his hair..
  6. In a tough spot, trying to make the best of it? He's getting paid $75 million as a professional athlete and he shows up overweight and completely useless. How is this a 'tough spot' and how exactly is he 'trying to make the best of it'? Trying to make the best of it... is not showing up to spring training grossly overweight. It's not like he accidentally fell into a silo at Ben & Jerry's and had to eat his way out to survive. The dude shows NO RESPECT to the game, his teammates, or employers. $75 million and you can't even stay in even marginal shape? He's a disgrace to every single real athlete out there. Disgrace. He deserves all the hate he is getting. The Red Sox have a huge chunk of dead money sitting around because of his useless, pathetic, fat ass. (Now the Red Sox were complete idiots for signing this clown, but this "Panda's trying! Leave Panda Alone" BS is puke-worthy. The guys is laughing at us as he continues to stuff his face)
  7. Can we make one for Panda and HanRam to retire?
  8. To me, the 'hunger' is NOT just on the field, but what separates those who have the 'hunger' to spend every waking hour dedicated to being the best. If Pablo can't find it in him to go on a diet and train year round, he doesn't have this 'hunger'. Period. What makes Tom Brady the greatest of all time is specifically his never ending 'hunger' that has him going into Foxboro at 1am to watch more film and get more practice in. For the love of God, is the insane amount of money and playing for a championship not enough incentive? I know plenty of amateur athletes that put in an insane amount of daily training while working full time and having a family and they aren't even getting any money, even when competing! So no, Panda is not 'hungry' to be a great athlete.
  9. I know it's beating a dead horse, but I just still can't understand how the FO could have balked at resigning Beltre at $16M a year after having a MVP calibre season (and a good career and no evidence of falling off a cliff), tossed out trash for several years and then went and way way way overspent ($19M per) for the fat-ass Panda express. It literally makes no sense. /End rant
  10. Postponed due to... wait for it... cold. Only baseball. "We can't play, it's too cold!". I can only imagine what George Carlin would have said!
  11. Just an observation: The Red Sox have over $110 MILLION of their roster contributing to -2.8 WAR. Holt and Mookie ($1 mil combined) have been far and away the best two players; Hanley, Craig, and Castillo ($37 mil combined) have been far and away the worst.
  12. I guess you haven't been around for long then, because I hate to break it to you, but this is how us generational Boston Red Sox fans have always been. I don't think pointing out the obvious is negativity. Are we supposed to just sit here singing kumbaya? They pitching sucks and we knew this going in. Being upset and grumpy is the natural reaction. I'm going to go kick your dog then complain that your being negative when you flip out on me...
  13. And this is the difference between a winning and losing organization. Just because you made the mistake of paying him doesn't mean you make the mistake to continue playing him. Cut the losses. I spend $50 on a bad beer that ends up being terrible, does that mean I suck it down? No, I say a few choice words, dump it down the drain, and move on. The only thing worse than ending up with a bad contract is not getting production from a spot because you are playing your bad contract.
  14. I'm trying to be positive since apparently all I do is 'bitch'. Mookie is showing that he can hit!
  15. We need to put Masterson back in the pen. I think that's his best chance to succeed.
  16. Porcello might be below market-rate in years, but NO ONE has given a player $20 million a year with less of a track record. Not even close. And lets not pretend were talking about a different sport. It's baseball. There's no real cap. I'd rather a team overspend on a proven winner then pay market value on an unproven commodity. Lets not pretend this is the NFL where economics actually matters. But that's not even the issue, because Lester wasn't overpaid, he was paid exactly his market value.
  17. Can we please kidnap Craig and throw him in the Charles? Please.... Very solid outing from Porcello!
  18. How about consistency. A pitcher who year in year out gives you 200+ innings of 3.60 ERA in a high-pressure town, is legendary in the playoffs with two championships. Talk about splitting hairs with one bad season... OMG, he had a bad end of 2011. Small sample size? You are the same person who criticizes people for complaining early in the year over a small sample size, yet you turn around and use the same argument. Seriously, one bad month is your reason why Lester is worse than those guys? How about consistency. Which of those guys has put up multiple years of great pitching? which of those guys has performed in the playoffs? which of those guys have shown they can handle pressure? Lets talk about consistence, please.
  19. What straws? Other than the obvious 3 best pitchers in baseball, where do any of those guys have a big edge over Lester?
  20. 3.06 ERA vs NL teams. You have to take into account the fact that he plays in the AL East. It's no surprise that you almost never see a starter dip below 3.00 ERA in the AL East. It's still arguably the toughest division to pitch in. Put him in an NL pitchers park and he'll enjoy a sub 3.00 ERA easy. RIGHT NOW, I'm taking Lester over all of them except Kershaw, Felix, and Sale. The rest either haven't had enough sustained excellence (one or two good years isn't enough in my book. Promising, but if I'm looking to sign a #1, I'm taking the proven guy every time, money being equal) or have inflated #s due to the NL/etc. Price I think is a wash due to the unbelievable playoff success Lester has had, same with Scherzer and Wainwright. Tanaka, who knows if he can put together 4+ years of great pitching, we have yet to see that from a Japanese import. You can put Lester where ever you want in that List, but in my opinion, there's at least a very good argument to have Lester in the top 4-10.
  21. Name me 10 pitchers who you'd put ahead of him. Proven big game pitcher, put up consistently great # in the AL. I don't have him top 5, but I do think he is at least # 10
  22. There are 20 pitchers making more than $15 million per year, 11 of which are between $20 and $30 million. Sure, inflation will bring the numbers up over time, but it's simply not true that middle of the rotation guys are getting anything close to $20 million. The top 10 pitchers in baseball get those $20+ million per deals. That leaves ~65% of #1 pitchers (by definition) making under that, and ~ 33% of #1 pitchers making under $15 million.
  23. He's not going finish the year with an ERA under 4. That said, I think he's a good middle of the rotation guy, just not an Ace. He pitched a good game tonight though.
  24. We got value out of the Beckett trade/contract. Lowell was awesome, Beckett helped us win a Championship. He started to suck and wore out his welcome, but I never criticized the deal. I also liked the Gonzalez move and he did put up some pretty good numbers overall in Boston, but his attitude was just awful. I thought Crawford's deal was a bit much, but no one expected him to totally suck (and we have been there so many times before, it happens). I did criticize the Sox when they overspent on Dice-K, just as I am very leery of them spending so much on Castillo. I never said anything about how Theo should run the Cubs. I haven't even been following him/them at all other than recognizing that they haven't improved at all since he took over. I'm not even criticizing him, I understand it can take years to build a team, I'm just poking fun...
  25. I do put trust in Ben, he had to deal with taking over an 'out of control' team from Theo and while there have been two disappointing season, he did get us another Banner. Theo, meanwhile, hasn't done anything to help the Cubs! Plus I actually like the Red Sox teams now, it was rough for a while with AGon, Beckett, etc.
