  1. I think the Guardians are more talented. I think that the Tigers, while being a good team, caught lightning in a bottle last year and will falter more down the stretch. I know a lot of you think the same about the Guardians. Fair enough. I just like the overall talent on the Guardians more. Anyways, here is the updated wild card standings. The Yankees gained a game on Seattle and Oakland, with no gain on the Tigers [or the Red Sox]. Next on the list for us is Seattle. AL WILD CARD Team GB Tigers - Athletics 2 Mariners 3 Yankees 3 ½ Twins 4 ½ Blue Jays 6 Devil Rays 8 ½ White Sox 9 ½ Orioles 10 ½ Royals 12 Rangers 13 ½
  2. Of course. Our two teams will have the financial ability to spend for a big time DH. We always will. As a Yankee fan, I like the DH. Overally, however, I don't like it.
  3. Wasn't this guy supposed to be better than Johnny Damon? I give you the fact that he is a great defensive outfielder. However, I think I could do better at the plate than this guy. In fact, I think Damon is better from the right side of the plate than him. You know what's funny? For all our collective money and spending power, we have made more mistakes than good calls the last two years. About the only signing/trade that has worked for both sides has been Abreu for us and Okajima for you. Everything else kinda sucks.
  4. The truth is that it takes away from the strategy. Now, a manager just takes out a pitcher without a thought to whether he is up next inning or not, there isn't a double switch anymore. Coco's Disciples, I am disappointed in you with that statement. It means you just care about it because your team has the best DH in baseball. Does that mean if you didn't, would you want to see the DH eliminated? The DH was instituted to increase the scoring. In 1968, Yaz lead the AL in batting with a .301 batting average. Bob Gibson recorded an ERA of 1.12. Those days are long gone now. Where I like the added offense a DH brings, I would rather see more managerial strategy in the game. This is why I don't like the DH. I like baseball the way it was designed, in this case.
  5. See, I disagree with you there. The Guardians are my pick to win the division. This is still a Tigers team that was terrible two years ago. The whole team kind of caught lightning in a bottle last year. The Yankees will leave Oakland in the dust. This will, in my mind be a three team race with the Yankees, Red Sox, and Tigers, with two out of three making it. Just my opinion here.
  6. Kei Igawa is coming back according to the Daily News and New York Post. You know, he has halfway decent stuff. The problem is he goes to 3-2 on every single batter.
  7. Sorry, the weekends are tough for me, but here is the updated wild card watch for the Yankees. Feel free to update this thread, but as it stands now, we are only 3 1/2 games out of the wild card, and trail only the Mariners, A's and Tigers. Let's keep it going. AL WILD CARD Team GB Tigers - Athletics 1 Mariners 2 Yankees 3 ½ Twins 4 ½ Blue Jays 5 Devil Rays 8 ½ White Sox 8 ½ Orioles 9 ½ Royals 12 Rangers 13 ½
  8. More fodder. I love it.
  9. I think the Lugo deal is awesome. Of course, I am a Yankee fan, so that should tell you something.
  10. Slowly, but surely, the Yankees are climbing the ladder. At the end of today, here is the updated wild card standings, with us gaining a game on the Tigers and Mariners [and also the Sox]. AL WILD CARD Team GB Tigers - Mariners 1 Athletics 1 Yankees 3 ½ Twins 3 ½ Blue Jays 6 Devil Rays 7 ½ Orioles 8 ½ White Sox 8 ½ Royals 12 Rangers 13 ½
  11. I think the real record holder is still Maris. Taking the record away from the cheaters is just one thing they should do to help discourage cheating. If you hit a homer with a corked bat, it's disallowed and you are called out. I don't see much difference. I am not a Bonds hater, but come on guys. His fringing skull grew. His hat size changed. There is no way to prove that he did drugs the year he set the record, no matter what people say about Bonds, but there is little doubt in the forum of public opinion. If Maris had an asterisk next to his game due to the season expanding to 162 games, it's only fair to have an asterisk next to Bonds, Mac, and Sammy. Maris didn't have a choice, baseball expanded their season. These guys knowingly expanded their bodies.
  12. We are still way too far away to worry about the division. If we make the playoffs, and that's a big if, I fear the Angels, not the Red Sox. We can't beat the Angels.
  13. Schilling is done. So is Mussina. Yeah, every once in a while, they may have a good game, like Mussina did yesterday and Schilling in his near no-hitter. However, as elite pitchers, they are finished. The sooner you guys realize this the better. Schilling will walk after this year, and Mussina will walk after next season. It's just the nature of the game.
  14. I agree with you on that one, Jacko.
  15. Chip in buddy. Hopefully the Sox are hearing footsteps.
  16. Well, with the Sox winning and Verlander throwing a no-hitter, the Yankees haven't gained ground on either the division or the wild-card. However, with the Guardians slumping, the Yankees only need to beat out the loser of the AL Central. Here is the wild card standings as we speak: AL WILD CARD Team GB Guardians - Tigers - Mariners 1 Athletics 3 Yankees 5 ½ Twins 5 ½ Blue Jays 7 ½ Devil Rays 7 ½ Orioles 8 ½ White Sox 9 Royals 13 Rangers 14 ½ Only 2 1/2 games to catch the A's.
  17. I'm laughing again. I hope Hughes fulfills all you think he is Jacko. I am a Yankee fan, after all. However, if he doesn't, you are going to look really foolish. Here's to hoping you look like a genius.
  18. If I haven't been banned at this point.... So how come I keep my distance and relationships don't work out? Maybe it's because I usually give them the line "Don't call me, I'll call you". Hmm...maybe I should call them when I say that? Is that too much togetherness? I'm so confused. Where is ORS when I need him?
  19. Seriously Jacko, get off this kid's jock. He may turn out to be something, or he may be nothing. The majority of prospects turn out to be average players. If you can get an All-Star player who is a Gold Glover at his position at your current weak spot, you do it. The kid comes out, pulls his hamstring, and is out until September. Teixera can be a huge difference maker. Now, I'm not saying that this deal WILL happen. To dismiss this out of hand, though is crazy. I am of the firm belief that you make a run to win today if you have the horses. I've heard you say you wouldn't trade this kid for anyone outside of Santana, Halliday, etc. I couldn't stop laughing. At his best, if everything goes right, he MAY end up somewhere around that class of pitcher. More than likely he won't. Can he be something special? Of course. Will he be? Maybe, I'll even give you probably. Is he worth a bona-fide All-Star today for you to make a run? I would say that you would have to entertain the idea, considering that he is injured, and if Arod leaves, it could be a couple of years before we unseat the Sox at the top of the AL East. I mean without Arod, just where does our offense come from? Jeter batting cleanup?
  20. With the Mariners coming back to win after blowing a seven run lead, not much has changed with most teams being off. The Yankees remain within striking distance. AL WILD CARD Team GB Tigers - Mariners 1 Athletics 2 Yankees 5 ½ Twins 5 ½ Blue Jays 6 Orioles 7 ½ Devil Rays 7 ½ White Sox 8 Royals 13 Rangers 13 ½
  21. Truth be told, when Mussina is your number 4, you are in good shape. They can make do with a number five, or go get an innings eater before the deadline. Hughes is a non-issue, and to tell you the truth, if there is any truth to the Texiera for Hughes deal, I would do it in a heartbeat.
  22. Once again, no games gained on the top 3. We just have to keep winning. AL WILD CARD Team GB Tigers - Mariners 1 ½ Athletics 2 Yankees 5 ½ Twins 5 ½ Blue Jays 6 Orioles 7 ½ Devil Rays 7 ½ White Sox 7 ½ Royals 13 Rangers 13 ½
  23. I feel like I just lost years off of my life.
