You know, I was reading Joel Sherman's article in the NY Post saying how the Yankees are not serious players for Teixeira. I don't understand, and this is why Cashman is an idiot.
I can understand not moving Hughes, he joins the rotation now. However, I would trade Chamberlain and/or Kennedy in a heartbeat.
Before this season started, Chamberlain was rated the 75th prospect by Baseball America.
SEVENTY FIFTH!
Are you telling me that Teixeira isn't one of the top 75 players in the game today? True, he has been injured, and not playing to his norm, but he is a young player who will rebound. He is also a Gold Glove firstbaseman who, with a pitching staff that doesn't strike out a lot of batters, and has less than a stellar defensive infield, will be a major addition.
Can you imagine this lineup?
Jeter
Abreu
Teixeira
Arod
Matsui
Posada
Abreu
Cano
Damon
How does that lineup not make the playoffs [i know Torre will insist on Damon leading off, even if he can't steal a base anymore, has a s***** average and OBP].
The Yankees have a chance at a bona fide All-Star switch hitting Gold Glove firstbaseman, one who hits for average, power, and has a good eye.
All for the 75th best prospect in baseball. Cashman should be assassinated.
