  1. WC Standings 8/18 AL WILD CARD Team GB Mariners - Yankees ½ Tigers 1 ½ Blue Jays 6 Twins 7 Damn Mariners won't lose...however, they are in a stretch of 44 games in 45 days....so I'm hoping they will just burn out soon. Still waiting, lol.
  2. Damn Rivera is doing his Gagne impression. s***. At least we didn't lose any ground.
  3. My favorite announcer of all time. Probably the biggest loss for any fan is not hearing this guy. The guy made you feel like you were sitting on your grandfather's lap as he was telling you about baseball. In a day and age where announcers go for "signature calls" and "gimmicks", Rizzuto just told you a story for nine innings. The Sporting News or Sports Illustrated wrote an article about him and his announcing technique. It ended with "Don't ever change". Ted Williams said that the reason why the Yankees won all those championships and the Red Sox didn't was because the Yankees had Rizzuto and the Red Sox didn't. For those of you who are younger, Rizzuto was the original David Eckstein. Just a better fielder, hitter, bunter, and runner. Oh, and smaller, too. I don't think there is a player in the Hall of Fame who got more out of his talents than this guy. RIP Scooter. Heaven got itself one great shortstop, announcer, and guy.
  4. Great win for you guys last night. f***.
  5. Right now, considering his health, I like him at 1B, platooning with Duncan, and Phillips as the late inning defensive replacement. Betemit plays super sub role.
  6. Your friend and I are of the same cult. Turn the lights off, they all look the same. Since I don't intend her to be there when the sun comes up, it makes little difference to me.
  7. If it wasn't for Gagne, they would have bent over for you guys as well. As it is now, we only have to win one of the next two games to take the series. If we win tomorrow, Thursday is a free game.
  8. I'm the same as always. I just get under your skin more because the Yankees are inching their way closer to your team.
  9. This has been a pretty good thread so far, I think. I like how you guys are debating it. I would personally take Moose, for the main reason that I think the is able to rely on a variety of pitches. Neither of these pitchers will overpower anyone, and for that reason I would pick Moose, because he simply has more pitches to throw the batter off-balance.
  10. Orioles score 3 in the top of the first..... Now we get to see what the Yankees are made of. The Orioles ace has been spotted a 3 run lead. Lets go Yanks.....show the Orioles that no lead is safe.
  11. Interesting so far...remember, this is about going forward from this point...not career up until this point.
  12. True. How did this thread turn into Farnsworth and Gagne, though? LOL!
  13. I didn't think I could root harder for the Devil Rays, but you just gave me another reason to root against the Red Sox.
  14. I DO !!!!! The more you guys complain about Gagne, the better I feel, I have to be honest.
  15. I was 6 years old in 1978, and have no real recollection of it. I didn't start watching baseball until I was 11. However, if you guys collapse, it will be the biggest thing I've seen you guys lose. I'm rooting for my personal history, lol.
  16. What's his numbers over the last EIGHT appearances? Any pitcher can have a bad game. When you blow in four straight appearances with your new team, it's a different situation. Beckett can get bombed next game. So what? If he gets knocked out 3 starts in a row, you worry, don't you?
  17. I'm starting to have fun with this stuff. Ok, looking at these two pitchers, they have had nearly identical seasons. Schilling: G IP H R HR BB SO W L Sv P/GS WHIP BAA ERA Season 17 106.1 123 51 13 19 76 6 5 0 96.3 1.34 .287 4.06 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mussina: G IP H R HR BB SO W L Sv P/GS WHIP BAA ERA Season 20 114.0 130 59 13 24 73 8 7 0 88.3 1.35 .294 4.50 With the overall difference in the bullpens, a case can be made that Schilling benefited from the better pen the Sox had over the course of the season. In other words, I think they have been pretty much a wash so far. For the rest of this season, and next season, who would you rather have? I don't knock Schilling's past post-season excellence, having been on the receiving end of it in 2001 and 2004. However, realize that you guys would be gloating about 2003 if not for Mussina. Neither of these pitchers are a anything close to what they used to be, so keep it about the now, not 1994. Which pitcher would you take? I will reserve my opinions after I hear what you guys have to say.
  18. Damon is not a liability when healthy in the field. Now, its true, he may have a better arm than my grandfather [who happens to be dead], but he does cover a decent amount of range. Look, I hope Melky turns out to be something special. We shall see.
  19. RSN is starting to come apart at the seams. I love it! Give the newbie a break, though. He just joined, and considering the series you guys just had, what did you expect him to talk about?
  20. You know whats funny? I was watching the Orioles feed, and he was hitting 91, 92. The Sox gun I guess is different. You know, with this comparison, I have to admit, Farnsworth is baffling to me. He regulars hits 96-97, but his main problem is that his slider is 88-89, so everything comes in at one speed. I really think that he has electric stuff, but what a head case. I think if you put Farnsworth's stuff with Gagne's makeup, you would have a dynamite pitcher. As it is, right now, they both suck.
  21. Every Yankee fan is in love with Melky. I really fail to see why. He isn't as good as Yankee fans think. I think a healthy Johnny Damon blows Melky out of the water at the plate.
