  1. At the time, the sox were floundering and dropped way behind in the race. I think at the time, yes, you'd have lost fans, but nothing brings fans back like winning baseball. And the way the sox approached the deadline, it was clear they didn't believe in the team
  2. The cap hit is $22 mil per year
  3. I am of the belief that the upper level management didn't let Bloom do what he wanted to do. If you aren't going to let your GM make deals for the long term, then why get a builder in the first place. Your farm isnt where it can be utilized entirely to fill holes or make major deals for now talent. You're inbetween right now and having had the opportunity to deal off Xander, Eo, Wacha, JD and others would have hastened the return to glory
  4. There's no way they're extending both. Xander's loss of power makes it even more guaranteed. Xander may be hurt or that may have been a smokescreen. If he loses his power and is a slap hitting, high average, awful defensive SS, you dont want him on your roster well beyond his mid 30s. Story is the better defender and the better power hitter who will likely be better in the long run. For Devers, I would look at what you can get for him. He's good, but he's not Juan Soto. His biggest asset financially is the age he will hit FA, and that doesn't benefit the Red Sox. Sox have too many holes right now to commit 12 years and stupid money to. Might be better off filling multiple holes by offloading him, and if he's dead set on hitting FA, outbid others for his services 24 and beyond
  5. I'm a ND fan too. I just don't understand how we don't get great QB talent every year. We always have a dominant O line. We always have good RBs who can catch out of the backfield. We always have a Mackey award finalist at TE. We have talented WRs, but never seem to have a great QB.
  6. 5 runs with HRs from Marwin and IKF. Twins coming in always know how to hit the Yankees bats
  7. And Beni is out for the year. We had a healthy and functioning first 3 months and were world beaters. We now are carrying too many injured players. FYI, Lemahieu looks like he needs to be IL'd. His foot issue clearly isnt better and he is collapsing when he swings. Guy probably needs surgery
  8. Yanks got old quickly. Lemahieu, Stanton, Hicks and Donaldson are automatic outs. Rizzo’s back is ailing. Beni is hurt. Torres’ wrist is ailing. IKF and Trevino were playing over their heads in the first half. It’s Judge and only Judge right now. The kids are being asked to be the spark plug which isn’t fair to them. The pitching has held up, but the O has fallen off and I don’t see it improving.
  9. And I don’t see how they can pull out of it. They can’t hit.
  10. I don’t learn my lesson
  11. I’m pouring all my baseball time into my jobs. 9-0. I just can’t. It’s a reverse 1978. They suck
  12. I’m so glad I started multiple new jobs this last month. Baseball is no longer a refuge. It’s a source of stress
  13. I’m gonna lay some of this at the feet of Hal. Cashman has done a great job of building our farm, but he kinda went second rate again on our upgrades. Maybe we didn’t have the pieces for Soto, but we did for Castillo and we let him go to another AL contender. We didn’t pony up for the best pen arms, and now they’re injured and we are relying on Anthony f***ing Banda in big spots. I’m also perplexed by the degree of injury that the Yanks have every year. We don’t have durable players beyond Judge, who wasn’t durable early on. It’s like the team has lost it heart at the wrong time.
  14. Boone is unable to pull out of this tailspin
  15. If they complete this fall from grace or get bounced early, they’ll both go
  16. He was pretty durable until his elbow exploded
  17. I actually think the guy the sox will go after is Zach Britton. He should come cheap, he has closer's experience and should be close to 18 months post TJ procedure when you hit pitchers and catchers. He's a guy you "add to the mix" and name as closer if he looks good in ST. Remember, Bloom is a value guy. He isnt gonna go after the guys who will come at a premium
  18. I doubt that honestly. I think Paxton get a MiLB offer with a mild guarantee with another club. With Boston, he has a high payroll team that has a clear need in the rotation and the guarantee of at least a reasonable payday.
  19. Casas is a guy I would NOT trade, especially in lieu of an 18 yr old buried deep in the farm. He is your starting 1b next year and the best barometer of your rebuild. Especially when the sox deal off Devers
  20. As with Brasier, he saw a velo bump which prompted his improvements. It is now up to Schreiber to stay ahead of hitters. And we are already seeing a regression, granted his first three months were unsustainable.
  21. Schreiber makes your own next year but he gives me Brasier vibes. Remember Brasier kicked around the Japanese minors then came to Boston and lit the world on fire. Once everyone saw his new arsenal, though, they adjusted the second year and he’s been downhill from there. AAAA players aren’t there due to lack of talent, they’re there due to lack of adjustment. Eventually the bigs will adjust to Schreiber and it’ll be on him to adjust
  22. Now we are being no hit by a stiff. What the f***
  23. I don’t use Whitlock as a starter or closer. I use him a la Michael King with NYY before his elbow literally exploded. Multi inning relief weapon. Houck I’d do the same with. Get yourself a true 1 inning closer. Use Houck and Whitlock as multi inning weapons 2 times a week apiece and you can take games from your rotation and carry them to your closer 4 times a week, which increases your chances of winning
  24. Volpe up to .831OPS on the year. 31 doubles, 41 steals, 18 bombs. Kid is demolishing AA. Should be in AAA next year and fast tracked to the bigs. He’s only 21. Dominguez up to .836OPS in High A. Solid CF defense, 12HR, 34 steals. Kid is killing it in August as a 19 year old. He will be in AA next year and one small step from the bigs. He’s been absolutely on fire since the trade deadline Peraza has cooled off. OPS now .751. Counting stats still solid, but his August has been awful. 17 HR and 30+ steals in AAA. He’s still one of the top prospects in baseball and should be in the big next year. Austin Wells cooled off on promotion to AA. OPS near .800, but not over the 1.000 mark he had between A+ and AA. He’s shown enough to either stick at AA for 23 or earn a promotion to AAA from the top next year. He very well may be a MLB option come mid season next year. Oswaldo Cabrera got the call up to the bigs. He couldn’t hit his first 8 games but has been mashing the last few. Defense has been stellar with some web gems. He’s put himself into the mix for next year for sure and he’s got quite the MiLB pedigree. He will likely be a Marwin replacement for 2023. Pereira has an OPS of .799 between High A and AA as a true 21 yr old. 15 doubles, 8 triples, 13HR and 20 steals in 95 games. He’s been good enough in AA to potentially see AAA out the gate in 23, but will likely start in AA next year. He’s a true defensive OFer who mostly needs to work on contact. Trey Sweeney has had a weird year. He had a .503 OPS in May. His other months .851, .835, .827 and .763. He has 13 bombs, 4 triples and 26 steals while playing better than expected defense at SS. Still likely to be a 3b long term, he should see AA next year Spencer Jones has 3HR and 9 steals in 16 games as a pro with an OPS near 1.000. He’s in long season A right now and will likely start there in 23, but his potential is very high and his contact issues that he improved on in his final year in college continue to be trending positive. I’d love to see what he can do in High A
