  1. Did you pencil in Sale and Paxton into a rotation and not giggle or cry a little bit? Sale is the king of failed promises. Paxton gets hurt if you look at him cross eyed. They need reliable pitching, and the only guy who has been reliable is Pivetta. The rest are all FAs
  2. And Wimbush was so damn inconsistent. Book came in, made all the throws, was more elusive than we thought and decision making was good. He never had an elite tool, just made the plays that were asked of him
  3. That's not how the prospect game works. If these kids took off, they could be dealt for pitching. You go for value over position and then trade if you have a surplus
  4. true, someone else could fade. We dealt Monty because we literally had 7 starters AFTER losing Monty, Sears, etc. We needed a CFer and got one. Nobody could have predicted Monty would go from mid to back end of the rotation to ace.
  5. Well, so bashing the GM might be warranted here. I just took a look back on the Renfroe trade. Sox ate money to take on Bradley with the hope that Hamilton and Binelas would amount to something. Renfroe posted almost identical AVG/OBP/SLG but with league offense down, he's surpassed his 2021 WAR in 43 less games. Sox could definitely have used his stick in the middle of the lineup. But the talk was about Binelas and Hamilton. Well, both have flopped. Binelas hit A+ pitching well with an OPS of .850, but his introduction to AA has been anything but good with an OPS of .588 and a .147AVG. He will likely start there again, but his K rate is unsustainable. Not entirely unfixable, but the shine has come off this prospect. Hamilton, meanwhile, turns 25 this month and has a sub .700OPS. Bright side is the kid can steal bags (63), but if he doesn't reach base enough, you cannot steal 1b. Both players obtained from the Brewers have fallen off in value and this really hurts Bloom. The Betts trade accomplished some of it's intended goal. The Renfroe trade solely falls on the progression of these two kids and the early returns are a stark negative
  6. With game 1 win, the yanks clinched a winning record for the 30th year in a row!
  7. Realistic view of 2023? Hard to do when the dying quail of 22 is still on the field. I think I predicted a win total in the 70s this year (I did last year too and look where that got me). Sox will have a lot of money to spend but some VERY expensive positions to fill. At least 3 starters. A closer. 2 middle of the order bats. And no major impact prospects on the horizon beyond Casas and he's no surefire guarantee at this point. We shall see how creative Bloom gets
  8. Moncada has a 4WAR season in 21 and a 5.5WAR season in 19. The guy has immense talent. He just has been dealing with the injury bug which seems to have robbed him of his elite speed. You cannot predict that
  9. Sevy threw 4 innings in a AA game and Cortes to return very shortly. Which pitcher comes out after Schmidt? Montas coming off 5 shutout innings? German who has been lights out his last 6 starts? Taillon as he has faded late?
  10. Also, why is Volpe not up here with everybody hurt? Kid got to AAA on Sept 2 and is raking (9 for 20, 2 doubles, 2 steals, 3 walks). He cannot be worse than this Guzman stiff.
  11. Donaldson went on the paternity list. The kids showed fight. Absolutely no clue why we have Guzman out there. At this point, I'd rather we just add Wells to the 40 man and promote him. Guzman is not a major league caliber player
  12. Boone shows once again why he deserves to be fired. How do you let Guzman hit there? Just abysmal
  13. If the sox didn't require a team to offload some of Price's deal, I think the return would have been bigger. Requiring the Dodgers to essentially take on $48 mil for a glorified reliever was a LOT
  14. Sox got a solid major leaguer, a top 50 prospect and cash relief on David Price. The fact the prospect didn't work out is irrelevant. Heck, Wong might be the better player than Downs in the end
  15. Either way, even if both are 140 game mainstays in your lineup, that lineup is weak. 1. Hernandez 2. Devers 3. Story 4. Casas 5. Verdugo 6. Pham 7. Arroyo 8. Hosmer 9. McGuire Thats a pretty terrible lineup
  16. Kike hit the IL this year and missed most of the season Kike hit the IL last year and missed 2 weeks. Kike has played 140 games twice in his career in his 8 full seasons. Story was on the IL last year with an elbow injury. This elbow injury was blamed for his move to 2b Story missed many games this year with a variety of injuries You are correct, prior to last year he was an iron man
  17. They can re-sign Devers if they give him market rate. The problem is, will it hinder their roster building going forward OR would a deal of Devers help them better in the long run. I know the return isnt equal, but the return for Soto was MASSIVE. Gore, Abrams and Hassell was an enormous haul. Add in Ruiz and Gray last year in the Scherzer/Turner deals and they're set up with potential foundational pieces for years to come. If that type of haul exists for Boston, you need to take it.
  18. It is true, but next year you're looking at filling holes the size of texas. There arent enough impact FAs out there to fill your holes and you don't have the minor league talent yet to fill the holes internally or be used for trades. Look at this team... C- McGuire- he has sucked everywhere, now has been good in a SSS. He at least brings good D 1B- Hosmer- cannot hit 2B- Arroyo- career backup SS- Story- solid, but injury prone 3B- Devers- MVP of the team LF- Pham- really a glorified backup CF- Kike- perpetual occupier of the IL RF- Verdugo- solid player DH- Casas?? Dalbec?? Cordero?? The above lineup is destined to be back of the field in production. Devers will never see a pitch to hit. You need at least two impact bats to be added to make it work SP1- Sale- really? SP2- Pivetta- a #4-5 at best SP3- Bello- probably needs some more AAA time SP4- Crawford- should be in the pen SP5- Winck- totally sucks You literally need an entirely new rotation. Totally new. Mata waiting in the wings is good, but he also is just coming off TJS, who knows how long it takes for him to get going and if he takes the next step So for the rotation and lineup, you need at least 3 starters and at least 2 impact bats in the same offseason not to mention a closer. Plus you need to figure out if you are extending Devers and allocating cash for that. There are just too many holes.
  19. The second half Yankees won't beat anyone. Thing is, when you give out an enormous contract, you need to look at the first half of the contract as the years they earn the money. Doing so on a SS who needs to be moved off position and who's showing a worrying drop in power is a recipe for disaster before the halfway point of the contract. If he is earning his money on a team that isn't very good, then it is a waste. Xander's FA timing and the sox org timing are off. The sox need another 2 years for their prospects to catch up to the bigs and either be major trade pieces or future cogs in a rising organization. You're losing so many starters and have essentially no pitching staff heading into next year without true top of the rotation level guys coming through the ranks. So why extend Bogaerts if he might be on the down swing
  20. You don't let a one year potential extension get in the way of org needs. With Kike in the fold this year, you're in last place. Who is to say he is healthy next year as well. Heck, maybe it wouldn't have mattered. Adding the extra year gives Kike a chance to be more valuable next year and get a better return
  21. With Kike penciled in as your starting CFer, you need to worry about who backs him up
  22. Kike is an elite CFer defensively and Bloom took advantage of his down year to get him on the cheap for one season. That being said, Kike isn’t exactly an iron man out there. You better have a reliable 4th OFer
  23. But when we always know the Irish won't be competitive in the PO, what changes?
  24. Honestly, I could see the yanks sign Bogey. Yanks are heading to the POs this year, but need an offensive injection assuming they re-sign Judge. Adding Bogey would add a now player for a now team
  25. Yes, his WAR is great. Yes, he is still a great player, for sure. I am saying locking up Bogey long term when you're seeing his power drop and know his defense has been suspect (although better this year) heading into a season where he will be 30 and likely need to offer 7-8 years is a bad use of resources. The sox, barring an unprecedented spree this offseason, are likely not to be WS contenders next year. Why spend top dollar for a guy who's prime may be starting to fade when you're not a title contender?
