    I guess the bigger question is, why are we trying to upgrade our defense when our problem is scoring runs? We've lost 17 games since the AS break. In those losses, 4 times we have scored 4 or more runs, and 11 times we have been held to 2 or fewer. So who gives a f*** about WHY they picked up Alex Gonzalez? If he can't help us manufacture runs, he isn't improving our chances of winning. Take a lineup that didn't score for 30 innings and replace a marginal bat with a piss poor one? It doesn't matter how you slice it, that is a bad strategy.

    Good thing we saved all that offseason acquisition money last offseason so we could dump it on 40+ injured pitchers and guys who hit so poorly they were already shooed out of town by management once.

    Yeah, well two months ago Fenway flooded the field with flourescent lights and all the sox players stayed until 6 am with a bunch of kids who will be killed by giant cobras if they are ever in the dark. So there.

    I don't think Toronto will want to shed one enormous outfield contract only to sign another.

    Regarding the first point, men on base ahead of someone HAVE to influence stolen base totals. If there is a man on first base 10% more often than was previous, when Ells gets on he'll be 10% (not factoring in doubles, etc) less likely to steal second. When your leadoff guy is batting after the guys who dont do much damage, he has clean basepaths to run. Thats not the case in the 7 spot. Hard to steal a base from first when Big Papi is on 2nd Regarding the second point, yeah I am talking about a situation where Green is knocking in Bay or Drew instead of Ellsbury. They aren't being erased, I agree, but what i am saying is, why would it matter if you have guys at the bottom of the order who cant knock in guys often from first since the guys who would be batting instead of Ells in that low spot would be an XBH hitter anyway.

    Crespo- I think your theory hold merit but I have questions that perhaps you can answer for me: How many bases can Ellsbury steal with Bay, Lowell, Ortiz, Youk in front of him? If these men in the middle of the lineup can bat Ellbury in from first, wont that insinuate that they'll be (if not home already) on 2nd or third? IN which case they are in the same position Ellsbury would be for the men lower in the lineup to hit in?

    I dont think Porcello gets tossed without Youk charging. With that assumption, Youk essentially won us that game. Not because he "fired up the team", but because he replaced a very good pitcher with a dogshit one (not to mention his sub hitting 2 dingers). So to me, charging was worth it

    With the swing that JD has and the new ballpark's "mystique", it would be a mistake for the yankees to release Damon unless he's commanding a 4 year + deal for megadollars.

    I think Gonzalez would put up 45+ homers a year in Fenway. The biggest problem is we don't need a 1B. We need a shortstop, an outfielder, and another consistent starter. The only way we get Gonzalez is if Tek is done as our catcher or Papi is done at DH.

    Maybe these last few weeks will convince the Yawkey Way Brain Trust that showing up at Wal Mart and buying a half dozen items that may break in a week isn't as good as going to Bed Bath and Beyond and buying two useful items that you need. Christ.

    Smoltz been getting 5 innings for us. Tito just has been to f***ing dumb to realize that is all he has and pull him. The 6th inning has been an abortion for John Smoltz.
