  1. oh, and Eck is a total homer and that gets old.
  2. I can understand that sentiment. Hearing about how insert name of hitter is just trying to put in a quality at-bat 7-10 times every single game can get pretty annoying as well though.
  3. Eck talks about cheese too much and Roberts talks about good at-bats too much.
  4. Im sure someone has calculated by now statistically which is more important to a team in its purest sense, avg, or OBP and can quantify it for us with the number of runs per game difference. With controls, a team with a .300 avg and .350 OBP will score how many runs in a given game? What about a team with a .250 avg and .400 OBP? Using the percentage of runners scoring from 1st and second on a hit would obviously be important. Someone Bill James-ish must have done something like that 5000 times over by now, right?
  5. City look primed for top 4. Mark Hughes better make it work quickly...
  6. We created a logjam of average players at numerous positions. I am ok with that when you are bringing grade A players in, but not these guys. This is essentially the same jogjam we wanted to happen with Tex in the preseason, but instead its V Martinez and ANOTHER first basemen. Now we have two 3B, 2 C, 2 1B out of which only one (youk) is a standout. Whoopee.
  7. If we didn't spin these moves around into something else Im going to go ahead and say this trade deadline was more bad than good.
  8. At what point did Joesph Smith and Mark Teahen become the same person to you?
  9. Does anyone else think this is a watershed moment? This is the first real admission from anyone saying "yeah, I did stuff and it might have me on that list, and I don't care". Granted it is Ando, but I still think this is the first coming out party for anyone in baseball.
  10. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4368436 Bronson Arroyo, a former Boston Red Sox teammate of Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz, said he would not be surprised to find his name on a list of 104 ballplayers who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003, after he had heard a then-legal supplement he was using was tainted with steroids, the Boston Herald reported. Arroyo, now with the Cincinnati Reds, told the Herald he does not know if Ortiz or Ramirez, who were identified in a New York Times story as also being on the list of 104, were taking anything. He said his knowledge of what his teammates did ended at the clubhouse door. But he does not believe their accomplishments should be diminished as a result. Mike and Mike in the Morning Hall of Famer Peter Gammons says he is starting to think that every champion starting in 1989 has had at least one person that used PEDs in their career. Peter says the reaction in Boston is different because Big Papi is so adored in the community. More Podcasts » "In my mind, I think you have to lump the whole era together," Arroyo said, according to the report. "A lot of people were doing it, a lot weren't. I think pitchers probably gained 3 or 4 mph on their pitches and power hitters got some more power. "But guys like David and Manny, if they did something, it didn't make them who they were. Did it make them a little better? Probably," Arroyo said, according to the Herald. Ortiz said on Thursday that he had confirmed through the players union that he tested positive in 2003. He said the result came as a surprise to him and that he would say more about the subject when he knows more. Ramirez, who recently served a 50-game suspension for violating the league's drug policy, declined to address The Times' report, referring inquiries to the union. Ramirez's specific violation for that ban was never announced, but sources have told ESPN that testing during spring training this year revealed elevated levels of testosterone that had come from an artificial source. Bronson Arroyo Arroyo Arroyo, who pitched for the Red Sox from 2003 to 2005, said he took androstenedione, which was banned in 2004, as well as amphetamines, which were banned in 2006, according to the Herald report. He said he gave up taking andro, a steroid precursor, when a rumor spread through baseball that due to lax production standards, some of it was laced with steroids. Mandatory testing for performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball began in 2004. "Before 2004, none of us paid any attention to anything we took," he said, according to the Herald. "Now they don't want us to take anything unless it's approved. But back then, who knows what was in stuff? The FDA wasn't regulating stuff, not unless it was killing people or people were dying from it." Arroyo said he started taking taking andro after 1998, after a season with the Pirates' Double-A affiliate. "Andro made me feel great, I felt like a monster. I felt like I could jump and hit my head on the basketball rim," he said, according to the report. Arroyo said he is happy the game now has mandatory drug testing, according to the Herald. "I feel like the game's getting cleared up," he said, according to the report. "Personally, I don't care what people think about what I did. I do what I do."
  11. Thanks. I'll make sure to chant that from my living room.
  12. Pedro was my favorite sox player but I would be surprised if he hadn't done steroids.
  13. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4366335 Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003, lawyers with knowledge of the results told The New York Times. The two were key members of the Boston Red Sox World Series teams in 2004 and 2007.
  14. I agree Sean. Wang getting hurt is probably more bad than good if you are a sox fan.
  15. I remember posting something on the odds that Ortiz returns to form healthy combined with the odds Lowell returns to form healthy, and how when you combine the two, we should be aggressively shopping for a 1B/3B/DH last offseason. I also remember this being shot down, rather quickly.
  16. Straight from baseball prospectus: "The Yankees are still mulling how to address their Wanglessness in the rotation." bwahahahahaha
  17. Anybody else wonder if Bay's contract situation is wearing on him? 617- how many rbis does many have this year? homeruns? doubles?
  18. George K can. I'm confident V-mart can too.
  19. He's a great hitter, known to be a "character guy" and would open up a roster spot by catching wake and playing first. That being said, Overbay is a decent option.
  20. I have to believe there will be a decent market for him, specifically in the national league. Certainly better than $.01 I feel like he could be in the middle of a 3 team deal that gets us a bat, maybe Martinez or Johnson, with one of our higher prospects attached with him
  21. whats the market rate for Penny?
  22. what would we have to give?
