  1. 2005 - top is Award winner Bartolo Colon, bottom is Johan Santana 2003- top is Tim Hudson, bottom is award winner Roy Halladay 2004- Top is Randy Johnson, bottom is award winner Roger Clemens 2005- Top is award winner Chris Carpenter, bottom is Roger Clemens The last two are crazy. Clemens threw almost the exact same number of innings, and had an ERA almost 1 full point lower than his ERA the previous year, against a man who had a higher ERA than the challenger the previous year in similar innings. But Carpenter won 21 games. Clemens 13.

  5. I'm pretty sure I did. Here's an example to show what I mean though: TEAM GP GS IP H R ER BB SO W L ERA *** 33 33 222.2 215 93 86 43 157 21 8 3.48 *** 33 33 231.2 180 77 74 45 238 16 7 2.87 Which one of these guys won the Cy Young?
  6. You said that the stat most beloved by voters is ERA. I disagreed. You pointed out someone who was supposed to go against what I said, but didn't make your case for you. I found statistics that show why that was irrelevant. You changed the wording of what you were saying and told me i was trying to tell you what you were saying. Thats not the case. I am telling you I disagree with your assessment as ERA being the most beloved statistic among voters. Calm down Listen- I'm not saying that ERA doesn't matter, but they favor wins. Look at the 2003 (Hudson) AL race. Look at the 2005 AL race (Santana). These men had MUCH better ERAs but didn't win. The main differentiating statistic? W-L. I would say if W-L are close they will favor a significantly lower ERA, but in Grienke's case, that is not the case. Edit: had names flip-flopped- fixed now
  7. They aren't blinded by anything. ERA included. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the point being made.
  8. CC had 1 win less than the leader, with the same number of losses. Grienke is 3 wins behind the leader in wins and 4 losses behind the pitchers with the least amount of losses. If this is your argument, then 2007 C.C. says hello to your ERA as well, since Lackey had him destroyed there. 2007 is because the guy has similar stats to the others with 40 more innings, and is irrelevant to anything we've discussed. note: only 16 more innings than Lackey, who had 2 more losses and an ERA .2 lower, which only furthers my point.
  9. I would argue that the most beloved voter stat is wins and losses. And I think that one will hurt him.
  10. I wonder if Nomar would sign '04 WS gear?
  11. So far so good for my city boys. The second half play against the wolves wasn't great, but the win against Barcelona in the friendly at Nou is very encouraging.
  12. ive got a 32 year old sox shirt that was passed down from my old man. There are pics of him wearing it in the 70's. I'm 27
  13. So......the extra .5 walks per game started for Burnett this year compared to last year, combined with Beckett's staggering 0.11 improvement in ERA this year compared to his career is what is now separating Beckett and Burnett and in your mind now MJ? I just want to clarify, you know, so there's no confusion.
  14. Thats the catch about s***. The more spew it, the more you forget about the crazy old s*** you used to spew. So....is he injured? Or were you just wrong, like we originally said?
  15. Yeah I'm just playing around. Good to see the reverse trolling catching on.
  16. You dippin' into my kool-aid 21? I saw his line last night was going to make this thread as soon as I got in.....
  17. I think the bigger question in all this is when does Omar Minaya get fired? I feel like the Isiah Thomas similarities are there (though not to the same extent).
  18. He doesn't need a link- he watches the games.
  19. 9 hits or more allowed in 3 of his last 5 starts. Didn't see the games but people said he looked crappy. Please discuss
  20. 6.32 ERA in August. On books for 70 million dollars more. Sky is falling.
  21. 22 ER in his last 31 innings pitched. 0-3 record in August. Please discuss.
  22. If you have a crush on Jacoby Ellsbury you'll love them.
  23. I dont care about the money owed him. We have a glaring hole at SS. The only way I see not getting a guy like Guzman (who was available) as even approaching acceptable is if we are getting a major superstar replacement for the SS position this offseason (which probably wont happen). If we want to be bargain basement shoppers, we are going to have a mediocre team, which is what we have right now. "We've got mum's for 14.99" " Don't you have a nice 80, or 100 dollar bottle of champagne?" "You can get a whole bunch of mums" Thats what the Red Sox have been collecting since last offseason. A whole bunch of mums.

  25. When you are scoring 2 or fewer runs in 11 of 28 games, defense isn't going to help you win. And sacrificing hitting for defense in actually making it more likely that you will lose. Put it this way. 3 of our last 5 losses have been shutouts. Please explain to me how improving our defense will help us win these games. We can have perfect pitching, and then force it to extra innings and hope to score a run? How about 15 innings? I'd like to say that the 15 inning game was a fluke, but these numbers aren't lying. When we are losing, we are losing because we aren't scoring.
