Jimmy Connors was awesome,Borg retired in his prime and Ivan Lendl dominated for a long long time but couldnt win on grass.Laver played with a wooden racket and the only time I saw him play Connors demolished him quickly, sort of like Ali vs Holmes or Holmes vs Tyson or Ali vs Patterson ,the changing of the guard of if you would. Mens tennis is just too much different today than it was 45 or even 25 years ago..Too much power in the game, 1st serve success is generally an ace and the volley aspect of the game is minimul. Its like comparing football players from the 60s to todays players, it simply isnt a fair ananolgy due to the size these guys now possess and the rackets they use.

Tiger will blow all the records away before hes finished but he's never had a rival to challenge him on a regular basis, Michelson never really threatened him,Harrington hasnt consistantly challenged him either,Garcia was supposed to give him a run but it never happened. Now in mens tennis we lacked the same thing for years but Nadal finally came on about 2 years ago and actually threatened Federer's dominance last year by beating him in Wimbleton. f*** all these guys, I havent witnessed anything like I saw yesterday in the world of athletics. See Usain Bolt run a 9.58 and obliterating his world record of 9.69 run in China last year? See the fastest American time ever,a 9.71 run by Tyson Gay get pulverized by Bolt? See Gay smiling because he accomplished what no other American sprinter in history accomplished? Edwin Moses ran hurdles undefeated between 1977-1987,122 straight races without losing, Carl Lewis was a burner, won 9 gold medals in 3 different olympiads and had world records in the 100,4x100 relay and the long jump and went 65 straight events without losing in that event, the most accomplished sprinter in American history bar nbne. Michael Johnson began the new style of upright running and put the 200 on the map and Bob Hayes Reynaldo Neimaiah Willie Gault and James Jett all had NFL careers. American sprinters were the Cats ass till Ben Johnson decided to roid up and run for Canada like Donavan Bailey did, both tremendous runners in their own right. What I saw yesterday was THE most jaw dropping experience I have yet to witness in Athletics, a 9.58 is just insane, a # thats a full 1/10th of a second faster than his Olympic run was last year, can this guy get faster as he ages? Can we see a 9.49 some day? This is pure athleticism at its finest and Usain Bolt is the man.
-
Sadaharu Oh? Ya and Tuffy Rhodes is the best power hitter in the world and Kei Igawa..never mind, bait swallowed. Bonds has the #s,#s dont lie and why would anyone put ruth over aaron and bonds? if bonds is the answer are we going to turn the record over to Arod when and if he gets there?

I guess the point is we have had a top 5 payroll over the last 10 years and still havent found anyone decent to play shortstop for more than 1 season without Theo trading, waiving or refusing to resign the incumbent player..Why is this? Thats the most important spot defensively in the game and we dick around with it as if it didnt matter.
-
I wonder what Theo has against shortstops, the idea of Nick Green Julio Lugo and Jed Lowrie as our guys to start the season was an disaster waiting to happen. Hanley is the face of the Marlins, they have a 30M payroll and a ton of young talent and may be just good enuff to get into a wildcard

Drews obp#s are impressive but I think he'd be doing himself and the team a favor by being more aggressive at the plate. Walks are nice but we need some doubles, some rbi and some taters from the guy whos supposed to be a legit 5 hitter, his 12hrs 43rbi and .250 avg aint getting it done from the 5 hole. the .350 obp is good but the .440 slugging isnt good enough for what we expected. At least hes been on the field 95 games and looks like a lock to make 100 which in itself is a f***ing bonus and reason enuff for the Drew Fan Club to jerk each other off. This guy is an enigma and I think you could f*** his wife in the ass with your forearm on her throat and he wouldnt show any emotion.

A little early for the white flag my friends. They arent gearing up for 2010 when up in the wild card and 3.5 out of 1st place on August 7th. That being said Im not sure the players havent packed it in. 3 straight games we get HR's to open the game and we go 0-3. Theyre flat, Smoltz and Penny embarass themselves each time they start and if we didnt have an 8-1 record against the Yanks we would be 5-6 games out of the division and battling tampa texas and anaheim for the wildcard spot. As is they're lacking fire but tonight we have our stopper going I like our chances, maybe Becks opens the game and sends Jeter and Damon to the emergency ward on back to back pitches. Somethings gotta get done here to fire these guys up, too many IBM types that are punching the clock at 7pm and punching out at 9pm rather than 11...

f*** off Jacko, patronizing motherless f***, give him a chance....Kidding Its hard coming in here and wanting to discuss things that have been analyzed by the panel ad nauseum. It wasnt a bad idea bringing in Smoltz and Penny but it emphasizes the huge discrepency in talent between the National League and American...I heard a guy on espn say that St Louis has the best 3 man rotation in their league and that maybe true. Whats also true is that of the 3 men 2 were waived by AL teams including Joelle Piniero, a guy who couldnt get anyone out in the AL and now is very effective in the NL...Penny and Smoltz could probably still be effective if they didnt have to see the DH and the deeper teams we have in the AL, they are simply useless here, especially Smoltz.

Nobody will celebrate a 4.7 era, we may put up with it but I dont think we're celebrating.

This week has an 06 feel about it already, the signing of Paul Byrd is like the Captain of the Titanic demanding the ice supplies to be refilled.

Go where D?...Start a shitstorm, on a sox forum?? Gee this would be a 1st. There arent 10 people on here today and 100 people left in Boston who know who Mario G is and if you cant find a little humor in life maybe you should consider chemical enhancement yourself, is Extenz available down there? Check it out papi, this maybe what you're really looking for. I just sent a neighbor who likes to write me letters a case of this s*** and ever since hes been quiet. We think hes spending all his free time in front of a mirror with a ruler instead of watching my house with a telescope with a police scanner in his hand while writing down license plates of my visitors. Smile, lifes far too short to be worrying about a guy who beat Raul Mondesi out of 600K. http://www.cleavageonline.com/extenz.html Studies show that Extenz and Expand will improve your sexual performance through increased libido along with better, stronger erections and increased size. Many of the men using the Extenz and Expand programs report an increase in size of an average 28%. Take a look at our comparison to Extenz. As you can see above, the Extenz formulation is almost identical to Expand! The largest cost for Extenz is advertising, that is why Expand is less expensive. Our largest cost is putting together a superior product made from the finest available ingredients for you! Since we discussed this last Bard was hit in Tampa and we ended up blowing a game we had a shot of winning on tuesday, last nights game Penny gave away early and our bats continue to suck against even the most mediocre of pitchers, it isnt 1 man that we can blame for this 45 game malaise, its essentially the entire lineup...ive seen the sox blow 5 straight against these guys in august 06 when we were still in the hunt. in fact i saw beckett get ass raped by detroit on a Monday and then by NY on a Saturday afternoon when Tom Paradis and another buddy were gracious enuff to take me into fenway to sit in the seats in right where you have you own waiter, i dont plan on driving to NY this weekend despite tickets being available for us for Saturdays game, I plan on painting my mothers house instead. History tells me these guys are going to get hammered, you dont limp into NY playing weak ass baseball while theyre on fire, its just a recipe for disaster. Tonight Joba is a huge favorite over Smoltz and now Paul Byrd and his 86Mph have been brought back for the stretch run, what does this mean? It means that if Smoltz cant get it together this evening that he may find himself out of work and it also means that Tim Wakefield isnt walking thru the door anytime soon either....They need Elsbury to lead off and torment the Cornhusker from the get go, they need Pedroia to hit 2nd with a little bit more pop than we've been getting and they need Youk to hit 3rd with the same vengeance that he hit in Baltimore...Bay Papi VMart and Lowell got to show up this weekend too, Ny is ablaze and they got a lot of payback to give us coming in 0-8....If Im a gambling man I would stay away from this evenings game, i dont lay 165/100 against the Sox but the over line is 10, the way the sox are hitting under 10 is palatable but the way Smoltz is pitching its very attainable by Ny alone. Maybe its a good idea to look for the Doris Day marathon on Lifetime or the Oxygen channel tonight? Either that or get stones out of my mind on some hard core painkillers and a little kind bud that found its way into my life this week, im not very optimistic about the Sox chances this evening and dont have enuff stomach lining left to allow myself any room for acid reflux because 4 games with these mother f***ers in August can seem like a lifetime when you're going bad. Elsbury is the catalyst, the boppers need to bop and the starting pitching has to keep us in the game by keeping Ny under 4 in each starters outing for us to have a chance here. Christ I hate the f***ing Yankees, i hope Madonna comes down with a nasty strain of the clap as it will spread thru that clubhouse like a fart in church and make the Yanks a little easier to handle.

Hopefully his arm is sore and he needs to be evaluated further

Tito lost me when in game 3 of the 04 pennant when Curtis Leskanic was brought in when we still had a pop, he also had pivotal innings in game 4 as well. just think if Leskanic pitched true to form and we got swept then we wouldnt be discussing this guy as a manager, hed be a bench coach in Milwaukee or somewhere in AAA ball..I guess the bitching about pitching to Longoria has been stated already. f***ing Garza just owns our ass, good thing he kept Veritek in there to hit late in the game with 3-4 bats sitting on the bench..The Belichek approach doesnt work over a 162 game season my friends, when the last player on the bench makes more than the Manager its very easy to lose 25 guys quickly with the hard assed approach...These are baseball players not football players. Bball players need to be hugged appreciated and rubbed down and loved while football players need red meat, titty bars and a reason not to kill their grandmothers on game day.Different mentality altogether,a 1 game loss in the NFL is a 10 game loss in the MLB standings, waaaaaaaay too much pressure game to game in the NFL than in MLB and the preparation for each game is just far too different, if a baseball manager approached each game like an NFL coach he'd be hospitalized before September

Theo wants Hernandez and I want to f*** Jessica Alba, we all got wants. Hernandez is on this year and owned our asses but if theo didnt go all out for Roy Halliday he aint gettin all out on this guy and we aint getting a deal done via a waiverwire deal.
-
Girardi seesm to be the ******* suckup who doesnt get any respect from his former teamates and consequently the young guys see this, cabrerra and cano spent more time perfecting handshakes than they did on the bases last year...The whitesox are good and can be f***ing scary at times.
-
Theres obviously more pressure coming into a game in the 9th than in the 8th, it isnt debatable in my opinion but I have also noted that winning teams over the years have needed their 11th or 12th pitcher at one point to get an out and will have the season in his hands. The idea of replacing paplebon with bard is rather assinine at this stage of the year. Even the 96 Yankees kept Rivera in the setup role and allowed veteran John Wettleland to close out the games, he was the mvp of that series if im not mistaken and it was clear that if NY had a lead in the 7th you were f***ed. We dont know what Bard is going to do for the rest of the year but we do know what paplebon is probably going to do. theres no way on earth Bard is closing this year as long as paplebon is healthy. That said what we've seen of Dan Bard is awesome and it makes our bullpen that much more effective and it also provides us an option if for some reason paps is ineffective or hurt, he's been neither despite some panicky words being written here.. Paps is our closer, Bard has won over the setup role and will close on games that Paps is used up. We have had worse problems and its too bad neither man can play short like they pitch.
-
I wonder if Nick Cafardo was an altar boy in Hingham with Sean McDonough. It appears that we're prepared to eat 1/2 DiceKs posting fee to watch him pitch elsewhere. We're like the United Way, paying players to perform elsewhere has become Theos best attribute.

Drew still has fans?

If we couldve gotten Halliday for Bard and Bucholz coupled with the addition of Vmartinez I wouldve done it and we still would have gone into the playoffs with a Halliday Lester Becks rotation. I think that would be enuff to get us over the top in October and again next year. We got a ton of dead weight here that will be coming off by the time we need to reupp these 3 men and our drafting and development of pitching under this group of owners has been nothing short of f***ing awesome....Roy Halliday has more quality innings in July than these 2 guys have had in their careers and that includes a no hitter...We werent getting him for nothing. That said we didnt give up too much for Vmart and all in all its good when NY doesnt add the best pitcher best hitter and best reliever available as they usually do each July 31st

Whats wrong with Jason Bay?
Mr Crunchy replied to pedroia_the_destroyah53's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
Agreed and Im still good with the pitching My only real concern is will we be able to score enuff runs to get into the playoffs. The playoffs are suited for us but over the next two months it will be rather miserable if our 3-4-5 starters continue to get ko'd in the 5th inning and teams like Oakland manage 50 hits over 4 games. This team is good on paper but we got 5 men in career long slumps and thats gotta change. -
RE Vick:..VP of sales said Mike Vick was at Logan today, the VP of sales was also completely full of s***. and after going so far as to contact friends in the Staties at Logan and people on the ground in Foxboro theres nothing to this other than idle speculation.. i think we all know that adrien gonzales is a good hitter and i think most of us know that roy halliday is a good pitcher and after every single trade imaginable has been discussed to the point of pure f***ing torture we are now down to a simple waiting game to see who's bluffing and who's going all in. When did Boston and New Orleans swap weather patterns and why wasnt I consulted? This is the suckiest summer I've had since the chubby blonde chick from Bridgewater State came down with the crabs and a rare strain of Gonnoreah only seen in Nigeria and Brockton prior to my visit to the lab....Ever try explaining to your sainted mother why the Center of Disease Control wants to fly you to Atlanta for a looksie??...to quote George Carlin ""I never been with a 10 but I have f***ed 5 2's""

Ortiz isnt sure he took steroids....and somebody else s*** in my pants, it wasnt me. This is the s*** that makes me angry, makes him look like a f***ing liar and destroys the integrity of the game.Does he want us to believe he accidently used the wrong cream, drank the wrong mango shake or used the wrong syringe?... Admit it and take the hit, write a check to the Jimmy Fund and get on with your life. Is Mario Guererro the health minister in Santo Domingo?

Report: Manny and Ortiz tested positive in '03
Mr Crunchy replied to Paradisecity's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
George Foster hit 52hrs for the Cincinatti Reds in 1977 . Before that nobody hit 50 since 1965 and that was Willie Fkn Mays and after that it was cecil fielder who hit 50 with detriot in 1990....Matty Williams was giving the HR record a run till the league shut down in the strike of 1994,then Albert Belle hit 50 in 1995 and the steroid stories began. Brady Anderson hit 50 in 1996 and I knew he was tainted, McGuire followed up with 52hrs in 96,58 in 1997 and then 70 in 1998..Griffey Jr also joined the ranks with 56 in both 97 and 98..We all know about Sosa, th eonly guy who hit 60hrs 3 yrs in a row...All these guys except Griffey have been accused so why do we absolve Griffey of any kind of cheating?... Notice the incredible decline in his output after being sent to the Reds? The oft injured Griffey had the same kind of physical decline as all these guys who we accuse of juicing did and we give him a pass because other guys have better #s and didnt have that colgate smile that Griffey had. Not me, not when he hits 56-56 while he never did it before and cant break 40 for the rest of his career.. The entire 1980s didnt produce a 50HR hitter and suddenly after the strike we have many doing it.. f*** the owners, f*** the players and f*** you fans that care about this for ignoring the obvious. Thru history we can see men breaking 50HRS every 8-10 years, the 1990s and this decade are the only exceptions to this pattern and it has indeed sullied the most storied records in our beloved game. Baseball history and its record books are as sacred to us Americans as the constitution is. We the fans chose to ignore the obvious even when the press was in McGuires locker we didnt want to see the light, we only wanted to see history...Well thats on us as far as im concerned. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_home_run_club I assure you that I give a f*** less than anyone about steroids in the game but I dont like to see people getting away with using Roids while other men are being crucified over it. Griffey Jr? I think he was a juicer based on math and his decline in health, f*** him and the ballwashers who have absolved him because he didnt break any records, I have no evidence other than the 56 homeruns he hit back to back and the decline of his health when moved to Cincinatti but this isnt a trial and I dont need to prove this to a jury of his peers.
