  1. Maybe none that will satisfy the final standings. I am being repetitive, but when you are in first place 100 games into the season with one of the best records in baseball, that is the time to spend your chips/money.
  2. If he keeps sucking, the Red Sox are done.
  3. Other teams paid the price necessary to fill their needs, so why give Bloom the excuse of “the price”?
  4. I think the players expected reinforcements. Heck, Barnes offered to go back to the 8th inning if Kimbrel came back to the Sox.
  5. All needs were addressed that season. Post prime Kinsler had a bunch of hits in his first game which was part of a 4 game kill shot series against the Yankees. He ran the bases so much that he blew out his hammy. But for that hammy, he would have contributed much more. You neglected to mention the biggest piece of all — Eovaldi. This team’s biggest need is also starting pitching ... and it wasn’t addressed. Stop making excuses. The need is still there. Sale can’t pitch 3 times a week.
  6. The 2018 team was the greatest Red Sox team in 100 years and they added Ian Kinsler, Nate Eovaldi and Steve Pearce (World Series MVP). Those were significant additions to a team that was rolling.
  7. So, you think he addressed the needs of the team for the remainder of the season?
  8. Does Bloom have a plan for the pitching which is not obvious to us?
  9. Whatever the explanation is, Bloom just didn’t get the reinforcements that the team needed.
  10. Playing for next season when you are in first place 100 games into this season is foolishness imo. Maybe next season they are in Toronto’s or the Yankees’ position 100 games in. Will they spend money or prospects then? That would be foolish.
  11. I think most people would think that pitching was the most important need even with Sale returning.
  12. This starting staff is starting to shape up like the 2011 staff that collapsed in September. I think that is where they are heading, but it will happen a month earlier so it will not hurt as much. I guess we can hope that Chris Sale returns as 2017 Chris Sale. But is that realistic?
  13. Is Bloom a genius who is seeing several steps ahead or is he in over his head? We will find out over the next couple of months.
  14. Speaking for myself, at age 62, I am not playing the long game as a fan. 2022 isn't too bad, but if they have some injuries and a bad start, those plans can go into the crapper. This was supposed to be the Yankees season, and look at them. When you are on a good run and still contending at the end of July, I think you have to seize the day.
  15. Tampa, Toronto, and Yanks all made major acquisitions. I guess Bloom thinks that he has this in the bag.
  16. Do you agree that his moves were not impactful?
  17. Three things about the Chavis trade. 1. He's one of Ben's guys and Ben believes in him. Not Bloom's guy so he was never going to get a chance. 2. Ben knows hitters and he is clueless about pitching. 3. Bloom seems to know pitching so maybe Davis will be helpful.
  18. I think his lack of moves sends a bad signal to the team. He didn’t want to part with prospects or take salary so his moves were not very impactful.
  19. Phillies get Gibson and Ian Kennedy. What pitchers are still available?
  20. Agreed. Without reinforcements, this team could take a bad turn. Blue Jays have added Hand and Berríos and they are pretty far back. Yanks added two big bats, and Bloom has a guy on the DL.
  21. I guess Bloom will go for some oft-injured retread pitcher with a big salary. Oh, wait, ... he already signed Garret Richards.
  22. Porcello is available.
