His approach was too aggressive. He probably should have taken a pitch unless he got a middle of the plate meatball. The pitcher used the aggressiveness against him. It is easy to say it from a couch, but it was a very bad approach. It doesn’t take a lot of talent to go up with the intent of looking at a pitch.

Bernie Williams on the Yankees was like that. He didn’t have the quick acceleration to steal bases, but he went 1st to 3rd and 1st to home as well as anyone.

You were pretty much dead on accurate that his early season performance was not sustainable. Everything in his extensive body of work plus his age pointed in that direction.

You start off with “no” and proceed to contradict yourself. Most of his saves were 1 inning or less and only 1 was 2 innings or more.

Houck has been likened to Sale by some people and Sale was able to pitch successfully out of the pen as a closer, so I see no harm putting Houck there temporarily.
