  1. I agree with Ben's assessment of our pitching as stated in my signature. They did their job. Porcello has earned his money. Miley should be on the Wheaties Box. You are right. There is no debate. Ben has positioned our pitching well for the future too.
  2. There is no debate. It is clearly not Ben's fault. He put together an epic team. Stupid May offense!!
  3. People think that Miley got upset about the balk and let it ruin his outing. I read on another site that he got upset when he was in the dugout while the Sox were batting. Someone got peanut butter on his chocolate.
  4. Without his bad games which were the fault of the fired pitching coach and bad hops resulting from faulty grounds crew work and freakish atmospheric conditions propelling pop ups into the stands for HRs, Miley has had a great season. The guy is awesome if you remove the outlier bad games. Without those games, his 4.80 ERA comes down to a little over 4. Very solid.
  5. I'm here, because I have nowhere else to go. And TalkSox is better than any other Red Sox forum.
  6. I can't believe that this has happened after he decided to change his Charity Bowling Tournament to Nerf Bowling to avoid injury. Signing the additional paperwork probably strained Bubble Boy's elbow.
  7. Some of the so-called sabremetricians here have lost credibility. Cherry picking one month as the explanation for the sorry ass situation of the 2015 Red Sox runs counter to sound sound statistical study. More than half the season is over and we are a last place team, because we have been the worst team for the first half of the season. We earned ignominy over the entire first half, not a single month. The cherry picking of the offense in May is embarrassingly silly, but I am sure that Ben appreciates the support.
  8. No. One aspect; i.e. the offense is good enough to be playoff quality, the other aspect; i.e. the pitching is so horrendous that it is the worst in the league. Your argument is just silly, but in order to stop this silly merry-go-round of nonsense, I am going to concede and admit that Ben did a fine job putting together the pitching staff and that the offense is our ruination. Damn you Big Papi and Hanley and your 34 combined Home Runs and Bogaerts and your .300 BA and Holt with your 4th highest OBP in the league and damn you Pedroia performing to your lofty career standards and Betts with your break out season. Damn you all!! You let down Ben!!
  9. they would do it if they were convinced that it would produce results whether it be conventional or not. The shifts were unconventional until they had demonstrable results and now they are conventional and over used.
  10. i appreciate some of the position players coming out of the system, but they are not quite Lynn, Rice, Dewey or even Nomar. They are very good players and nice output by the system. The problem that I have with our farm system and scouting is the lack of big time arms produced over an extended period
  11. Semi serious. When I hear about sacrificing the future, I expect the future to be better than last place finishes in back to back years. Big market big payroll teams like the Red Sox should be able to work in new players without finishing last.
  12. i hope so, but I wouldn't presume to predict what Farrell will do. Your brain is much larger than his brain.
  13. U you sabremetricians use the term "proved" much too loosely which is why it is hard to give many of you any credibility. It is the study of patterns, not cause and effect. I am okay with looking at all sorts of stats to study and evaluate probability. They don't prove anything. Imo, the most productive lineup's stack their best hitters at the top of the lineup. Putting a lesser hitter in the middle of the the good hitters lowers production in my experience.
  14. Another alternative would be to continue watching the futility of Napoli and make predictions about how low his batting average can go.
  15. We are stuck with Craig's big contract for the next couple of years. It would be in our best interests to re-establish his value. It would be hard to contribute less than Napoli at this point who is helpless at bat and a liability in the field. If Craig does alright, maybe we can get something for him in a trade in the offseason
  16. they have been good enough to get us last place last year and they are making a nice run to repeat. That's a future that might have been worth sacrificing.
  17. I got the date wrong on this one. Mods please delete.
  18. Game Time 1:35 Eovaldi vs. Miley
  19. Game Time 1:35 Episodic vs. Miley
  20. Finally, Napoli needs to go. But for Panda's cross body block at second base, Napoli makes 6 outs today. Bring up Craig. What is the point of having him in the organization.
  21. Note to Farrell for tomorrow's game and the rest of the season. XB is a good player and developing into a star, but he is not the #3 hitter on this team. Ortiz is in a groove and he and Hanley are the 3/4 or 4/3 hitters on this club. Ortiz batted lead off 3 times today. That can't happen. If XB didn't get the 2 out infield hit with the bases loaded in the 7th inning I was going to storm the dugout and strangle Farrell. Stop with the stupid lineup. You are losing runs for your team.
  22. it would have taken a very good play. Your manager outsmarted himself by taking Nova out with only 86 pitches. Other than Ortiz and Hanley, he tore through our lineup and was still throwing well. I realize that Betts had taken him for a double in the prior plate appearance, but in 5 ABs against Warren, Betts had 2 doubles. Now he has 2 doubles and a triple. When he took out Nova, I was grateful and felt that we would blow it open and we were one Hanley swing from blowing the doors off. Stupid managers never cease to amaze me.
  23. we knew "Good Buch" was on borrowed time.
  24. The staff is constructed with # 4's and 5's with an injury prone inconsistent #3. That had a low probability of success.
  25. Napoli needs to go. You can't even count on him to just strike out. When he make contact, he cost us 2 outs.
